Gas Mileage
Hello
This may sound dumb, and I couldn't seem to find an info on it but what is the average mileage for one tank of gas on a CMP 15. We are suppose to be doing a parade and military convoy on Canada Day and we only have one working tank on the CMP. The convoy is probably 40 kms and the parade is probably only a couple of kms. Thanks Joel |

Pack an extra jerry can of premium just in case.

You will get a lot further than 40kms on a tank of fuel. If the tank is full, I would suggest you will be fine.
If it is a chevy, you should already have a towrope attached to the front bumper. |

If I recall.....
If I recall, the average consumption of petrol was approx. 8 miles to the gallon. You metric buggers figure that out for yourself....I refuse to change! So it depends on a number of things, but we need not get into details. As Terry says, keep an extra Jerry Can of Premium in the back....or if you get a chance to stop along the way...just top up. You'll get the hang of it and you will get some idea of how much petrol your going through.
AND as for the Unwashed Ford Heathens of Shilo Manitoba....spare the tow rope. Robert |

My C15A needs refuelling every 120 Km's. I am running on low profile tyres so spend most of my time in top gear.

The third edition Chevy hand book states 12 1/4 gallons in each tank on all models, with 9 1/2 quarts in the reserve (included in 12 1/4 gal) of the early models.
At 8 miles to the gallon, that's 96 miles or about 150 km on a tank. (on road?) Robert's 120km advice is probably as good as it gets. Same info in the third edition of the Ford Special Pattern Vehicles. In the interest of harmony during war, Ford tactfully refrained from mentioning the tow rope. A MkI U.C. tank holds 11 gallons

You're right. Leave the Chev by the side of the road and drive on, and hope no-one reports you for littering.

Donald Trump-----tact CMP collector-----restraint Ford-------tow rope (not on the front, anyway) Mojave desert-----snowstorm. I think you guys get the picture.....things that do not naturally go together. Forgot to mention.....had a warning order a week or two ago that the funeral gun may be needed. After some minor work on the chevy gun tractor, and replacing the tires on the limber, I hooked the three up together and headed out the shop for a quick road test. Two blocks later, do you want to guess what happened? I blame a high pick up tube in the one good tank. |

I drove a M35CDN from MooseJaw to Winnipeg 20 years back to go to a parade. On the back of the MLVW I had my Bren carrier, and behind it I towed my KL. The distance was about 650 kms.
The Ford KLs weigh in around 11,000+ pounds and were like a boat anchor, so it was a very long trip at 60kmh. Just as we were about to reach CFB Winnipeg, the MLVW just quit and would not re-start. So I quickly re-attached the driveshafts on the Ford, moved it to the front, moved the tow bar over to the back of the Ford and the front of the MLVW, and pulled the MLVW thru the guardhouse gate so we could call it a night. We called for recovery the next day to take the MLVW (with the carrier still in the back) in for repair, and used the Ford to do our running around. Hard to say what make the MLVW was, as they are a bit of a heinz-57. GM engine, Allison automatic, rockwell axles on the US Reo designed truck, and with a Bombardier name on the data plate. So essentially it was a Ford to the rescue again....notable that it was the GM portion of the truck that had failed. |

What about this 'Get me home somehow' photo?
A well prepared Ford here, and NO the hitch is for towing home not pushing.
