Chevrolet CGT - What is this?
On the step inside the rear doors of my Chevrolet CGT are sheet metal projections (hopefully see attached picture) which would appear to be designed for some sort of stowage - to hold a box of some sort? Please can anyone tell me what they were for.
Thanks Rick Overy |

Bc f.a.t.
I have asked this question before with no responses. My 44 CGT had these on both sides,I remade them but haven't installed them as yet because I don't know what they are for?
POW cans? They fit 3-2 gallon POW cans, but the middle one can fall away as it has no holder. So I don' think that was it, plus the FAT already has 2- 3 can POW holders under the rear back body. 303 Ammunition? Possible but would ammunition be kept in the cab? Safety concerns? If not, than why did they carry 25 pounder shells in the same area in the rear body? With 6 enfields stored it could be a possibility. I bought one style and have it sitting in that spot. Need an old arty guy that still remembers what it was used for! I have asked several, no ideas. Or? A portable step to get in? Even for a 6 footer like me its a quite a step up to get in. They sit fairly high. Walde West Coast BC Canada |

I like the idea of them being for the P60 box as it makes sense having the AT shot readily to hand for emergencies. However, when I tried a couple of P60 boxes in mine they didnt quite fit - the box is about 1cm too long, so I am still not 100% sure. Rick |

I got on to this, because Bart Vanderveen got a stowage diagram for the Quad , and it said behind the door AP rounds , so that is wy we thought it must be for the P60 box , it said as well that there was storage for the AP rounds above the rear wheels

If yours fits I guess that settles it. Mine are only a fraction of an inch out, but it wont be the first time I've come across something fitted in not quite the right place on a WW2 venicle. Pressures of wartime production, I guess. Rick |

attached (hopefully) is a picture of the P60 box and the AT shot (basically just a lump of steel with a tracer in the base) and another of the box in the CGT. You will see it doesnt sit quite flat, it sits up on the forward lip of bracket. Rick |

P60 boxes
Rick
Thanks This makes sense, its been a mystery for a while, I have never seen a P60 box at any swap meet in Canada. Anybody have a couple? Next mystery is what was stored above the driver? There are some brackets. Also where were the door curtains stored? PS Your CGT body looks identical to mine, what is the S/N on the tag? Walde |

I have P60 boxes wich ly flat in the brackets , unfortunatly I forgot camera to take pictures .
Above the driver therte should be a plotting board/table in a canvas bag. there are also 2 brackets in the top of the rear compartment just behind the cab , I was told that they were for the tripod for the plotting table. |

Board sizes
Bob
I measured the box holder above the window frame, it is roughly 30" wide inside by about 2" wide and 2" deep. This box is welded to the top of the window frame above the wiper motor, the open side faces to the rear. The distance from the holder to the 2-hold down clamps is @19 ". I didn't measure how far the clamps are apart. I think the larger plotting board is 30" X 30"? My CGT is currently residing in a museum so I don't have a picture available. In a couple weeks I'll get a good picture. PS On another note I have a picture of the other holder that is apparently for the tri-pod. This is from another CGT owned by the Elliot brothers of Newtonville. Walde |

Is this a plotting board holder?
Gents
I was out at the museum yesterday and took some measurements of my CGT ceiling just above driver. What was the purpose of the holder, the box at the window and the 2 -1/4 NC stud mounts? The other question is there is a wooden block in the middle, it should also have a spring clip which I haven't made yet? I also added 2 pictures of the Newtonville CGT in 2004. Walde |
