Most of the Militia armoured Recce units were equiped with jeeps mounting GPMGs and .50 Cals... and were usually known as 'The Rat Patrol'

Service Battalions were known as 'Circus Battalions' or 'Nervous Battalions';

Scottish Units were universally 'Burr Heads'; and

Signals units were 'Jimmys' with those @#%$!*&$$#*@#$#@!!!

Pardon me, who are the Royal Canadian Rifles?, there is/or was a Royal Rifles of Canada, but I've never heard of the Royal Canadian Rifles, there was also at one time the Canadian Mounted Rifle Regiment/Canadian Mounted Rifles.

The Cdn Army's Regina Rifle Regiment, commonly known as The Regina Rifles: AKA "The Johns'.

This nickname becuse of the 'farmer Johns', of which many of the lads had come from farms in the prairies of Saskatchewan.

Ahhhhh....you beat me too it.

During WWII the 1st Brigade was refered to as the "Shiny 1st Brigade" and was composed of the following units;

The Royal Canadian Regiment (Pukas)

Hastings and Prince Edward Regiment (Plough Jockeys)

48th Highlanders of Canada (Glamour Boys)

Prior to WWI the 48th were also known as the "Red Watch" so named by a newspaper writer in Sault Saint Marie. It was also the title of a book written by Lt/Col. Currie the first C.O. of the 15th Bn. CEF (48th Highlanders).

The Imperial Black Watch were often refered to as the "Sheep Shaggers"

Another one for Armoured was/is "Sardines" i.e. packed in tin cans with no guts. Not that I would ever call them that. How they ever survived in those armoured vehicles the Lord only knows. Too many people in too small a space.
