Default Victoria Collections web site

Found in the Victoria Collections web site: https://victoriancollections.net.au/

What looks like a neat MCP 0IT Ford truck in Ballarat circa 1960s. I believe the vehicle was involved with maintenance of the tramway system in Ballarat.

The flat channel section bumber bar is a clue to its military heritage. 1941: has the badges on the bonnet sides

Maybe the welder ran off the tram overhead DC power lines ?

More VC pics

Looks like there was a Aust. Army Ambulance Company (3rd) based in Kavanagh St. South Melbourne, they were using a few of the ex-refugee Austin K2/Y vehicles. There is another pic of the unit workshop in South Melb. showing a K2/Y in the garage. https://www.awm.gov.au/collection/C15652

The unit war diary is online: no mention of the vehicles unfortunately . The unit had little detachments , presumably with a ambulance, located at various Victorian military bases. https://www.awm.gov.au/advanced-sear...ication%20Area

The White scout cars were sold off as surplus as late as 1973 - VMVC member Bevan F. purchased one at the Tottenham disposals sales at that time.

Default More Lynx

Late 1950s ? line-up at Puckapunyal - Land Rover, Austin Champs, CCKW and White scout cars.

Wireless Set 62 in the Humber. A parade in Albury. CMF units used the W.S. 62 set into the early 1960s, I would think the regular army guys would have been issued with the far better 'Larkspur' radios. With a puny 1 watt of RF power output, the WW2 era 62 set would have been marginal at the best of times. PYE in Victoria took up the production of the outdated 62 sets in the mid 1950s..... https://www.tuberadio.com/robinson/museum/WSNo62/ Ray in his article indicates the Australian sets were 'reconditioned' British sets but many of the military radio 'experts' in Australia have told me the sets were manufactured by PYE in Victoria - so this needs more research. I did myself think the sets were rebuilt British made sets but Dave Clancy the 'authority' on Australian military radio history told me the sets were actually manufactured by PYE Victoria. I can remember when Aussie disposals stores were selling the 62 set accessories i.e. the remote units and the xtal calibrator units for $5 each - the boss at their Dandenong South warehouse told me they were getting out of selling radios so we could take anything that was left., they had two very heavy Navy Murphy B40 receivers and some Larkspur B47s , I took the B47s but not the heavy stuff.
