new WC 52 guy
Hello there,
i`m new user. Living in NWGermany. My other car since 8 years is a MAN 630 L2 AE from belgium army. Since a few weeks i have a Dodge WC 52 T 236 Canadian Dodge. The car stand last 20 years in a hall in netherlands, before that it was in nowegian army. Has already a heater. I`m with joy being here and hope we have good time together. I`ll post some fotos when i´ll get a little more experience here. Now i`m searching for the special history of my car. The serial No is 91151596. I looked in several internet lists but never found the WC 52 with the number. Nearest number was 200 ago. It was a car send to Malta nearly end of 1944/begin of 1945. I`m very interested in the hood number oder even the bumper number or the info if its maybe send by the british. Can you help me? |

Hi Andreas, and welcome to the forum.
This section of the forum is about "Bren carriers" (Universal carriers) They are tracked vehicles. Your Dodge APT Weapons carrier is covered in the "Soft Skin" section. You need to have your post shifted to the soft skin section because you are likely to get better exposure in that section. If you ask Hanno (or any moderator) they can shift it for you. Hello Andreas,
Your Dodge APT serial number falls in the first batch of 5000 serial numbers (91151283-91156282) assigned for these Canadian trucks. A second batch of serial numbers (91166034-91172783) covers an additional 6750 numbers. PM me if you need the Parts Book, the Maintenance Manual or the Driver's Handbook for your Dodge: I have reproduced all of them. Can anyone confirm the actual total production of the Dodge APT as being 5000+6750= 11,750 or were the blocks of serial numbers assigned but not all actually used? ........... hello Andreas, first to start your truck is NOT a WC-52 , your truck is as follows D 3/4 ton APT (airportable)
T-236 Chrysler of Canada all produced with winch box has differences from the US box all APT's are 12 volt WP - wadeproofed, 6500 produced as per the Design Records earliest truck I have seen produced April 1945 and then produced to October 1945, very late to still be running trucks off the production line , check your steering box and axles for wadeproof tags also what does your ignition system look like waterproof or not, my APT was a August truck after the surrender, do you still have the narrow box on your vehicle? many of the European trucks went through rebuilds and may not now be as they were produced, |

I have been following this thread since I have one of these trucks. I always thought it was a WC, learn something new every day. Went outside last night in dark to look but could not make everything out so had to wait till morning to look closer at my data plates. According to data plate my ignition coil and distributor are not waterproofed, but looked at steering box and it sys it is wade proof.

Yes very interesting. Many of These Cars are fitted with a maybe hoodnumber and an Invasion normandy Star in Opposite To their Original History and noone matters...

That is interesting your serial number is 506 and the truck I have is 955, built 13 days after your truck, and so many miles between the truck I have, this one belonged to RC Canadian Signal corps, ignition not wade proofed either which I find odd. One other plate on this is truck is the small brass tag stamped " Model is D 3/4 WP/APT - GS-1" Quote:

It does sound like your WC-52 is not a Canadian Built unit, I could be wrong, as I have seen some odd trucks out there that I never knew existed, of all the Canadian Trucks I have seen they all have stamped D3/4 WP/APT built in Canada where as the American trucks are stamped WC-52 USA built Detroit .

My truck was made by Chrysler Corporation Canada Limited. I have the exact same plate as you posted with the ignition not being water proof.
As well data plate has it as Vehicle Model D3/4 WP/APT GS1. Order # for truck is S/M 6423 . I am the third owner since it was sold from the military so am not sure which department of military it belonged to prior to sale. Eric |

I would be interested in seeing Andreas data plate's, I have a seen one WC-52built in 1946-8 and stamped WC-52 that looked like the 1952 M37, but No where on Canadian Trucks have I seen the data plate stamped WC-52 ?

I have looked at pictures of WC52 and box looks fairly wide. I measured box on my truck , it is 72" long and 75" wide. The inside of box is all wood not metal.

Have cleaned the tyres, take the rust away, find pressdates at the Metal: goodyear 42, 44 and 47 in it.

Hi folks , your Euro APT's can have a variety of parts on them , most of them have gone through many government rebuilds, CCKW's and jeeps are a perfect example of this as to many different parts on them ie. MB with GPW parts, check your frame numbers , engine numbers, tags on steering box and axles, the bolt on brace from the cowl to the floor will have a C broad arrow stamped on it , when I restored my APT that was the only location I found that marking, the waterproof ignition systems would have stayed or been removed as per the parts supply that the military of that country held, I still have one complete wadeproof system NOS less the the coil for sale , these are extremely rare,these were also used on test vehicles in Aberdeen on the WC-52, but judging by those photos I believe they were in fact APT's, so bottom line here is you will need to do your detective work , the parts book also shows serial number lots for 12,000 vehicles, when only 6,500 were completed due to the end of the war,

Normally, isn't the manufacturers name on a vehicle data plate cast into the plate since it is going to be a standard bit of information common to all plates for that particular production run?
The manufacturers name on the plate image just posted looks to be stamped into the plate. Seems odd. David |

Yes Looks like afterwards made the Plate
But the Numbers pressed into the chassis is the identic and the serial Number i Found in the Production List is logical. Car Seems To be out of the begin of the First 5000 pieces from the 10000 Canadian Dodge. Maybe the car Might Buildet in the past 1944 Its like a criminal Roman without knowing the or if there will come any news at all |

Earlier in this thread, Brian Asbury confirmed the serial number of this truck matched Canadian Production numbers. Others have posted photos of Canadian factory issued data plates for reference.
I wonder if your truck went through a rebuild process somewhere postwar, where the people in charge were completely unaware (or just did not care for some reason) that the truck was Canadian. Maybe they received a batch of US vehicles and this one was in the batch. They simply did up a data plate to show it was American to a avoid a bunch of extra paperwork? When I was rebuilding a Cab 13 CMP many years ago and it was sitting in my driveway in grey primer paint, I had a 'gentleman' banging on my door one day to yell at me because I was 'restoring a German Army truck'. No way I could convince him it was Canadian! Makes for an interesting world. David |

Some answers to your questions
Hi Andreas. Your truck is from the first production. It is a ATP and not WP. The ATP/WP came in june 45. Your back bed is the correct one. They are wide as the US models names 31/2M1/ xxxxxxx. There was a bodytag behind the drivers seat. Your ATP is built 8- 10 of february 45. The engine in you truck is almost certain original from factory. Original engine number is stamped on frame left side were the radiator is mounted, so you can check there. There is also a body tag on the A pole right side, if its still there it would tell you body serial number. From your chs.nuber you bodytag should say 4290-325, or close to that.
