Default Wealth of CMP photos of are to be found in a web site dedicated to SAAF.

Wealth of CMP photos of are to be found in a web site dedicated to SAAF. I found them through a link that was published on the HMVF (Historic Military Vehicle Forum) the thread link is http://hmvf.co.uk/topic/39543-south-...comment-441972

The first link is to “These photographs originate from the private collection of Cpl. Ralph Harding. He was an aircraft mechanic attached to SAAF squadrons doing service in North Africa and Italy during WW2. Thanks to his grand son Kevin Smith who did the scanning and kindly made available these photographs to be published here.

Please respect the copy rights of these photographs and contact me to obtain the necessary permission if you want to duplicate some of this material in other web sites or printed matter.

Thanks

Tinus le Roux

But there are more photos albums http://biltongbru.wixsite.com/ww2-sa...e/photo-albums

My thanks to the people who took the time to share these photos and histories on the web. Snap shots like these are so often seen as just junk.

Cheers Phil

Default Colour Photograph

It is a Public Archives of Canada photograph and the troops are Canadians, but the guns were Russian and repurposed by the Germans.

I tried to make a Then and Now picture of this one a few years ago. The location is a quarry on the N158 from Caen to Falaise, Normandy. The quarry is still in use with fences and guards, so taking a comparison picture was a no-go, sadly.

Truck looks a bit like an Opel Blitz and was towing a field kitchen.

Right, in its better times it was Opel Blitz 3,6-36S. Apparently DAK, surprisingly the white recognition strip on the bonnet managed to survive the fire.

Default 12 cab Angola

Not so much in the background, apart from a 13 cab 60 cwt, more in the foreground, a 12 Cab C60 GS, in Angola, 1961, image found by eldest son Dan. Truck would have been at least 20 years old and still working with the Portuguese Army !

While not necessarily in the background of a photo, this is in the background of a tragic story in our Corona Virus times. A recent story was published on the Sydney Morning Herald's site (you can read it here: https://www.smh.com.au/national/fare...03-p55rx6.html) that featured a pic of a New Zealand Army F30 during CMT days in the 50's or 60's. Good clear pics of the NZ F30 are few and far between, so enjoy.

Hi Rick,
That photo must have been taken from 1951 onwards, due to the Austin Loadstar parked beside it.

regards, Richard

I like the old style sign writing on the Chev and also the buildings....a pity you don't see that too often anymore these days.

I don't think that the C15 in Rick's post #710 is a C15A. It looks to be riding too low, particularly at the front. My first thought was that the front LH wheel was in a bit of a dip but that would have proportionally lifted the rear RH corner which hasn't happened. I can't make out enough detail of the hub but could convince myself that the webs of the non-driven hub are visible (just !).

I'm with you, David. My mistake, it is a C15 4x2. I had to blow up the photo to see the webs on the front hub. Thanks.

As its a shot from the rear of the vehicles this one showing an RNZAF Support Unit moving between islands in WW2 SW Pacific will test your vehicle recognition skills.

Default Flood transportation in Sherbrooke, Que

This was posted on a FB page of historic photos from the Eastern Townships. No further details, except the train trestle in the background was once owned by the Quebec Central Railway over Wellington Street South.

Hello All,

I was watching a non-CMP related video The Truck That Invented An Industry at the 5:11 minute mark; and what crops up on the screen ? A very damp looking CMP Holmes Wrecker. Accessed 25th November 2020 from https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Pi6Q377Hh08

Kind regards
Lionel
