Default Windscreen Frames

Has anyone ever tried to source in Australia a brass or aluminum extrusion to match the Chev windscreen frames ?

Default If you find a source a lot of people will be interested

Hi John- Rusted out windshield frames is a common problems and has been discussed before on the forum try a couple of different searches on windshield, windscreen and you should find some useful information in previous posts. Here is one http://www.mapleleafup.org/forums/sh...dscreen+frames

If someone has found a source for the stock for Pattern 13 I'm sure a number of people will be interested. I've talked with sheet metal fabricating outfits and have found one who said no problem to do it but $$$$ for the setup once that is done then bending up the stock is not a real problem.

As you will see from the thread above my approach on the Pat 12 was to use NOS M-Series frames.

Good luck and keep us posted on what you find. If you find a place down your way that has the stock it would probably be cheaper then having it made new in North America.

Cheers Phil

Default Australian Chevs

Bear in mind, Phil the Australian Holden made Chev frames are a more rounded profile made of thinner steel than the Canadian ones. They are much harder to find in usable condition than Ford frames which are Canadian made.

There is a brass shower frame extrusion which is a little narrower in height which is sometimes used.
You'll find this info elsewhere on the forum.

Default Has a cross section been posted

Hi Keith

This is one of the wonderful things about this forum, I continue to learn about these crazy things called CMP. It would be interesting to see a cross section of the frame. I wonder if the window frame matierial was orgininally adapted from some other use for which the tooling already existed. If so what ? Was it common cross section to something Holden was already using or had used in the past?

Cheers Phil

Default Found Brass Extrusion

Euen Mcdonald has loaned me a piece of extruded brass that was made for windscreens years ago.I made a few inquiries and found a place in Clayton called George White, they specialize in brass of all shapes and sizes.Well you would not belive it the exact same extrusion as the sample,$99/3.6M.I cut a sample piece on 45 deg ans silver solder the two angles together. The only hard part is not to melt the brass as the silver is close the the same melt temp as the brass, but the join si as strong as an ox.I have included some photos feel free to have a say.The original frames are 5mm bigger across the flat than the brass but i'm not going to lose sleep over 5mm.

Well done John.
You should be able to get silver solder with a melting temp way lower than Brass.
How are you going to fix the hinges?
Does the extrusion have the hollow section for the joining piece?
Rich

Have used the same brass in my 13 cab, obtained from Peter Jackson, he,s up the central coast NSW now . strenthen the corners with brass angle inside on the bottom soldered in, outside on the top screwed to the hinge. Either fit new glass ( $60 a side) or fit wider "t" rubber. took one to corowa this year for K W. to check out. its easy to work with.

Was just about to suggest the same person. His website has pictures of the profile on it . Have not used it ourselves, but had started looking into it.
