Default PPCLI in Southampton, 1940

Thanks to Mr Michael Dorosh I now know that the RCOC were in charge of the Canadian Mechanization Depot in Southampton during 1940. However a retiree from GM Limited wrote in 1980 that the PPCLI was amongst those Canadian units that "gave a hand" in the assembly process because not enough Canadian troops were available to fulfil Canadian orders. Of course there were civilians as well. Does this make sense? I am sure that the RCOC ran the show, with civilians, and the PPs were amongst those ISSUED with trucks when they were landed in the UK.
