Default new track

Well I must be doing something right for a change, I have just got a new set of track for my carrier, so when the wheels come back in a few weeks time the old girl should look great , I am only short of a few small parts now,and I guess they will turn up its all related to the amount of effort that you put into looking for the bits,
Ron.

Hey Ron,

Where the hell did you get new track....actually what do you mean by "new"...NOS ( new old stock ), reproduction or new to your carrier second hand.

There's still plenty around, it's just that it's so hard to find and not close to home. Australia is a big country. There's probably enough NOS Aust Carrier track for 3 or 4 carriers in this pic, just that it's not close enough to the populated South East of the country!

Default Tracked vehicles

Wouldn't it fit in your carry-on luggage, Tony?

This is in Australia, Keith. Way off in Bush Tucker Man country. You could fit it in the back of the Corolla next time you're getting about.

Question which would you prefer???

What would you all prefer??

New old stock, that has not been fitted but is sixty years old and somewhat seized up.

OR

Brand new cast reproduction.

Also what would you expect to pay for each of these?

In restoring the Aussie carrier LP2A #2340, we used three cylinders each of Acetylene and Oxygen, to free up and fix the track - all of which was supposedly NOS, but which looks now like it is close to the end of it's life. Both sides of the carrier are two links off being at minimum length ( 168 links from 176 originally ) Still doing this to the track meant that it ran like new track at Corowa '05.

Default New Track

Hi Pedr,
NOS track is what I refer too is new track that is in its original sections of 22 links, and that has not been put together and fitted to a carrier, Its still out there and if you know where to look you can still turn it up, its much harder to get now then it was when I first started over thirty years ago,a lot of the carriers that I have come across over the years were used untill real tractors were avilable, and in some cases the spare track that was sold with the machine was never used,it was the same with lots of parts including wheels,I have seen them all in new condition in sheds, In this case wether the track is one year old or 60 years old it matters not, but if I had no choice I would put my hand up for new reproduction track with no hesitation,

Regards,
Ron

Hanno,

Looking at the lower photo, the castings are marked with "F M Co", as you would expect.......Ford Motor Company, but also have "I H Co" which I assume is International Harvester Co.

Any ideas why IH is on there, unless they produced the links?

I think it is good possible IH made tracklinks, we have a Willys MB rear bumperette with the Dodge,Chrysler,Plymoth, DeSoto logo in it.

Everyone was making stuff for the war effort so it's not a surprise to see small runs of parts made by companies not normally affiliated with the specific manufacturing arena. Singer (sewing machines) made the early British cruciform spike bayonets for the Number 4 Mark I Enfields. And I've got a nice British Number 77 White Phosphorous smoke grenade that was made by General Electric. Has their nice script GE in the circle logo.

For the track links, might be IH's foundry was a subcontractor for Ford.
