glass for windshields
I was wondering if anybody could tell me the thickness of the glass for windshields on CMP s or Willys MB/GPW s? One of the local shops is keeping 6mm (1/4) sheets of safety glass on hand. Wondering if this. May help anybody.
He has also has patterns for vehicles from the 30's and up. I plan on visiting his shop to see if he has anything military. Jason

CMP is 1/4 inch
Most local Speedy Auto glass can cut safety glass for your windshield at about $70 per window.
Would love to hear that he has CMP window patterns ....... Having a short conversation with an obliging manager will help you get the proper sealer and tips for installation and he will gladly do them for you for $$$$. Without a pattern get yourself a 1/4 sheet of cheap plywood and start measuring and cutting until you have a blank that fits perfectly then walk it over to the glass shop. Good luck Cheers

Thanks Bob. He has quite a collection of patterns that he got out of Virginia. I'm gonna take a look. He has one for a 46 Willys. So I hope he has some more. I don't Think he knows exactly what he has. I'm going to try to get over there this week. Any suggestions as to what I should look for as names? I'd be surprised if they listed as CMP or military nomenclature?

When I did my 12 Cab Ford I simply went into Speedy auto glass and asked them to "fit this". The next day I walked out with a completed windshield.

For windshields you must, of course, use AS1 glass. As well, if you are going to get a safety done at some point, get the glass place to watermark the AS1 marking onto it, otherwise you can fail the safety.
Some stiff cardboard for a template works out just fine. |

glass
So the big question for those of us with recently retired vehicles, is it better to go with NOS or newly cut glass?
I'm not a stickler for a maker's name mark in Toledo or Otumwa, but I don't necessarily want something that is going to cost a fortune to ship and risk breakage.
