This is a somewhat long-winded talk but it is more interesting than watching mind-numbing TV shows.
Neil refers to the TCS-12 set that I recently spotted in pics of GPA Half-Safe. Pics are from the Bendigo Amateur Radio and Electronics Club Facebook page. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LuLm4_Fdn6I

Hi Mike,
I used to have a TCS receiver in my collection but believing it to be only used by the Navy I let it go... Recently I learned they were also fitted to USMC radio Jeeps during WW2 for use in the pacific - and I’m currently building a USMC Jeep 😳 Cheers Phill

Yes the TCS family of sets were originally designed for use as a small marine craft radio, but it seems that the TCS radios were widely used in other types of transport. I had a wartime RAF manual showing the TCS radio set up in a Bedford MW house type van. After the war, these TCS sets were often fitted in commercial fishing boats. Collins radio equipment was and still is considered to be the "Rolls Royce" of radio brands . History: https://www.collinsradio.org/cca-col...the-war-years/ The US Navy used the sets into the mid 1960s. https://people.ohio.edu/postr/bapix/TCS12.htm

Thanks Mike,
Nice receiver too but the shipping would not be worth it. I stopped importing radio sets for my collection 20 years ago. I have had a jeep speedometer, a water/coffee jerrycan and a jeep gun bracket all seized and destroyed by customs in recent years 😳 Cheers Phill
