Question Victory Medal 1945

While sorting some boxes of old stuff I came across this... Can anyone shed some light on the origins of this medal?

Front is marked "1945"
Back marked "Victory Medal"
Any clues?

The website refers to it without the ribbon as an unofficial commemorative medal, along with several similar examples.

If the ribbon is genuine (looks so to me), an Aussie medal dealer might give you the price of postage and enough for a pitcher of draft beer at the pub. But probably not much more.
