Daimler MK1 Armoured Car
My friend, in Victoria, tells me that his fathers regiment - the Three Rivers, used the Daimler armoured car in europe 1944-45. Can anyone help me out please with any photos of the vehicle in service? I have found the unit markings via the RCAC website, but photos showing methods of stowage etc. & serial nos would be most useful.

Armoured Car??????? Not in 3RR
Uh, maybe a Daimler scout car in an HQ, admin or intercommunication troop function, but not an armoured car.
BIG difference between the two types. 3RR was a Sherman equipped unit. HTH Don |

Thanks Don, I missed this one...
I believe the only Canadian unit using Daimler armoured cars in NW Europe was 8th Recce of 2nd Div. The chap is probably referring to Dingos used by elements of the TRR Recce Troop, but we'd have to verify with their unit history to be sure...

Thanks guys
I'll check on the 8th recce and maybe paint mine in those markings - funny though that my previous informant remembered his units cars having the 2pdr gun and no Dingo ( yes - I do know the difference ) had a turret and 2pdr! They were used by the recce troop.
Another person in the UK ( off forum but a member of MLU) has promised me a photo, so we'll see if he comes up with the goods - if so I'll let you know!! Doh! my brain hurts !!:

I wonder.... Don? Any chance TRR re-equipped their Recce Troop with Daimler Is once they arrived in Holland? I would have thought Stuarts if anything, but at that stage of the war, who knows...

No.
Recce troop for the 3 RR was Stuart VI's.
Daimler Armoured Cars did NOT serve as recce vehicles in standard armoured regiments. Only in divisional recce untis like the 7th and 8th Hussars. This guy's friend has it wrong. Scout cars? Yes, absolutely. Daimler Armoured Cars. No. Don |

12 Manitoba Dragoons
seem to have used the Staghound quite a bit. And in Canada's fighting vehicles pic 14 in the back has Un-named Canadian unit sitting in their Daimler MK1 armoured car in a french village.

re. Staghound
Thanks sean,
I've already modelled a Manitoba's Staghound, so thats done. I'm taking the advice given and painting my Daimler as an 8th Recce vehicle (14th Canadian Hussars). The replies on this thread shows why I always check rumour with the experts before putting paint to plastic & resin!!

Good policy Dave...
7th Recce of 3rd Div also were big time users of Daimlers Mk.I's after D Day.
And contrary to popular belief, they WERE issued at least one Daimler Mark II armoured car prior to the end of the war. It has been said previously that Mark II AC's were not issued during wartime. Which kit do you have? Don |

re.which kit
Don,
It's the Sovereign2000 resin/white metal Daimler Mk1, with additional stowage and an Ultrcast resin figure in the turret. A good kit but like all resin kits needs care and some extra detail work.
