Default gone... OMVA web page

Hello Folks

Just in case you are looking.
There is no OMVA web page. This is as a result of not having a webmaster.

Eric,

Sad to say that these days many of us are older and tired and well involved with our own lives to the point that we don't see the need to be members of organisations.

I know I have studiously avoided getting onto the heirachy of OMVA for just that reason.

Default Future of OMVA

Hello Robin

There is No new blood willing to take any responsibility. People just want to have things planned for them, show up and then leave.

We have no Treasurer, No Web Master, No Membershop Coordinator and it seems we have no Vice President now. His e-mail address is no longer working.

Other than the magazine, Peter is doing everything and he wants to step down at the end of the year.

There is no summer show but there is a planned Fall show.

The magazine has also reverting back to 3 issues per year. The next will be coming out in Aug.

Sadly if there are no volunteers to take on these positions i can see the OMVA closing its books in the near future.

Eric

Very familiar lament heard in various clubs I've been associated with in other fields over the years. It only takes a few dedicated souls to organize everything, but invariably it falls to a declining number of club elders, usually founding members who have years of hard work invested. FWIW, the lesson I learned is that you have to drop the ball before anyone will pick it up. I've had to resign from several committees to force my own replacement. I've even seen clubs fold completely and then new blood appears later to start them up again. It's also worth looking outside the club - there are people who enjoy organizing things without necessarily being involved in the activity. Often they do a much better job for that reason! Anyway best of luck with OMVA and I hope you survive in the long run.

Default the silence says it all.

I guess the lack of feedback from OMVA members is telling Peter and myself that its time to close shop at the end of the year.

Hi Eric
I am glad that there are fellows like yourself who work tirelessly to keep an outfit like the OMVA afloat. Kudos to you, Peter and the rest who do so.
I must say though that it is not entirely fair to condemn the OMVA membership for not coming forward through this avenue (MLU Forum) as I truly believe that the majority of OMVA members do not frequent this forum.
The fellows here on MLU who are OMVA members are, typically, the biggest supporters of the Organization and are those who regularily participate in shows, swap meets etc as well as volunteering for this or that.
As with any Club, 10% of the membership does 99% of the work.

I think you have to look to the computer as being very largely responsible for the demise of many clubs / groups.

These days there is so much available online that the need for help given through club type groups is really quite redundant unless you are very specific about the club you belong to and what they can offer.

I know that there were many Land Rover "clubs" but their number have dwindled and the one that remain have something special to offer like access to obsolete parts that they have put back into production.

I think Eric, the trick is how to flip the OMVA around and re invent it.

Default Southern Ontario Military Muster

To Peter ( OMVA )
Living in Windsor Ont. there is not many parts for CMP, Bren gun, etc. in this area. Acton is the best place for us to go, to meet friends and pick up parts.
With the SOMM growing down here, I know what Peter is going through and I hope
some of the members would step up to help and keep the OMVA going.
