Default 13 cab Mudflaps & Doors

Help,
Does anyone have the dimensions/construction of the front mudflaps as fitted to CMP Cab 13 vehicles? All I have to go on are the remains of the width of the canvas which was bolted /sandwiched between the bottom of the wing and the retaining strip. Were they cross stiched for added strength?.One other quick question, with reference to the rear mudflaps. On my LAAT they were rubber, am I right in supposing that the front ones were canvas, OR were they originally rubber too? Bear in mind she was manufactured August 1942.
Another plea for help, this time concerning the drivers door. On the inside of the drivers door there are 4 holes drilled to take some kind of frame/pouch. The only thing I can think of is that this was retro fitted by the British Army, maybe to place maps or data sheets in, any thoughts?
Constuctive feedback welcomed
Keith

Hi Keith,

My C30 has the original mud flaps on the front and they are canvas which have lasted well. As i dont tend to look at its mud flaps very often, from memory i think they are small and have metal inside to give them weight, and are just long enough to clear the bottom of the step.

Would you like me to take some pictures of them?

Keith,

As far as I know only canvas mud flaps were used. Here is a picture of the rear mudflap on a very late F60L Mach -M1:

source: http://www.oldcmp.net/machm1.html

A back issue of CONVOY magazine features mudflap drawings made up from originals.

Hope this helps,
Hanno

Default Mudders....

Keith
If you look at this URL and look at one of the open pages shown ,it appears there is a C8A with small mudders on it..I won this auction so am waiting to see what is in it...I think this is the missing link that includes changes and add ons that came out as service bullitins from the factory and are not in the printed manuals....
These 200+ pages are going to tell us a whole lot of stuff..
The mudders shown on the picture in the link are different from the ones that Hanno posted,or so appear to be ..
I will be posting the availability of the manual when I recieve it..

Thumbs up CMP mudflap details

Hi Keith

wartime CMP flaps front and rear were canvas, rubber was in shortage.

Front mudflaps detailed drawings were included in
CONVOY MAGAZINE #6

Shows details of constuction.

Front flaps were canvas approx dimensions
were 12 1/4 X 7 1/8
divided into three panels, very slightly padded with a stiffener in bottom panel

Note SOME Fords had a small thin steel plate for front flap only

I have one (1) complete set of year 2002 CONVOY's left
Please contact me if interested

Cheers!

Default Is it possible.....

Bonjour everyone.....

Is it possible that early mudflaps on a C15a circa 1940 Cab 11 were made of rubber?????? I only have flaps on the rear wheels but they look very original ... although weather beaten... and they are rubber.

Did the Cab 11 have flaps on the front wheels???

Thanks for your help...

Default Mud flaps

Bob

Your'r right, all 11's and early 12 cabs had rubber rears I have three originals. Note that they also have rubber trim on doors and screens as well as rubber rear and side lights.
I have never come across front flaps fitted on early cabs.

Pete

Default Mudflaps

Firstly, thanks to everyone who has replied to this thread. The picture that Martin has supplied is exactly what I was looking for, as I have the remains of one of the front flaps, and this now confirms to me that some vehicles were fitted with short front canvas mudflaps. Still not convinced over the rear ones though, as in the Design Records there are several pictures of LAA Tractor units and CGT units which are fitted with rubber mudflaps. I agree that rubber was in short supply, and maybe this is why they went over to canvas say late 1942. Alex, let's hope your latest purchase will help with this small technicality, and others.
Keith

Keith,

Could it be for a lubrication diagram or similar? Although the one pictured here (source) is fixed with six screws.

hey its aaron here
Im at max's and i was going through some of his goodies and i found a set of original canvas mud flaps that we think are chev but we dont know.they are 8 3/4 inch by 12 inch but if you want to get them made up they are double in length so you would get a bit of canvas 17 1/2 inch by 12 inch and fold in half and sow together.
