Default What is this for?

Well what i'm after is information about this bracket on the passenger side door (right hand drive truck)

They appear on Aust built 40~41 Fords. Only mounted on the pass door and appear on atleast the 1 ton and up range of GS trucks. From the poor pics I have it looks like it is made fro flat bar and angle iron. It's mounted to the door by 3 bolts. Two at top and one centraly at the bottom.

So I would like to know what it is for, and any decent pics or dimentions of it so I can reproduce one as I have a 41 Ford 1tonner that has the mounting holes in the door for it.

Thanks!

Phil...

Default Door mounting

Phil
I have come across this frame mounted to the passenger door of a RHD truck before.
The truck was a chev 4x2 with the big singles Aust cab which may have been to Nth Africa.
I am also interested to know what it was for .
Regards
Jim S.

I think you'll find it was actually to carry the canvas water bag as the image shows.

Bob after having a closer look you are right as there is a centre bar running across that the bag straps are hanging off.

Well here is another pic that I have found on the "OldCMP" site and it appears different in sttructure to the one with the waterbag.
So now my question is... is that one with the bag a "home made I think this MIGHT be right" item or an actual coppy/or is the real item?

Most would have been field made and fitted so there would be no "one pattern Only' type fitting. So there fore it does not matter if it is different.

Hi Max. The photo showing the bracket on the door I posted earlier on in the thread could be the one on your ute.

Max thats a realy nice ute you have there! I have a very sad example myself. But I have a much better example og the tray back vertion that I am going to restore. Thats why I have been enquireing about this bracket.

It looks half decent in this pic but believe me it aint but will supply some valuable parts for the 41 1ton tray back.

Phil, we still have a couple of things to do yet to tidy the ute up, one is our tail gate is not original and we also need to have cover made for the back.

Well my one is missing the tailgate too. It was used in the movie "The Great Raid" as a Japanese transport and had quite alot of mods done to it to get it going for the filming. Not to mention the rust!

However things like the grill, running boards etc will be put to good use.

If there is anything I may be able to help you out with just give me a cooee!

Default Was my waterbag bracket!

Ha! That's the bracket I had on my 1 ton ute, and the original waterbag! Photos were taken in my shed at Gunning. It is an original bracket which I think Max copied for his ute.

The bracket most probably went with the ute to John Belfield a few years after those shots were taken. Don't remember what happened to the water bag.

Ten years ago now..... time flies.

Mike
