Hi Kevin. Excellent work as always. Do you have any idea why the extra plate rather than the wooden board and why the extra bolt?

When you fire the two pounder there is an auto eject for the spent case which literally flys out the back, you would need to protect the petrol tanks from a smouldering hot brass case, it’s essentially a gun deck, from the photos I have and lack of cut outs in the angle iron both sides indicate lift out steel plates were used, foldered at each end to provide rigidity. Extra bolt is to provide full complete coverage of the petrol tanks, luckily I had an original angle iron plate and good photos of the one at the Canadian war museum.

Hi, Does anyone have information on what insignia would have been on WW2 Canadian vehicles in service on the home front in Canada?. i.e. something like this formation sign and tactical/unit sign on the other fender?, I’m looking to apply the marking to my tank hunter carrier.

The Canadian war museum has one with a 2 pdr artillery piece plonked on top, I’ve seen another in a museum in Canada which has the wrong gun on it. Both pictures attached here.

The Canadian ‘wet’ coast is non-original example as Kevin points out… a brilliant fellow did excellent work on it and other unique Canadian military vehicles. Harry Moon may know a little more ?

From my own experience with Canadian museums, I wouldn't put much faith in anything they restored or have on display as being accurate, or authentic.

Which version of the 2in bomb thrower are you looking for?

Do you have a photo?

I made a quick trip to the Canadian War Museum and the technical expert there (Mike Miller) kindly let me take a few photos of their Tank Hunter Carrier. I believe it is somewhere on the list to get a restoration. Enjoy the photos.

The shield on the CWM example is a standard 2 pr shield, not the correct one for the tank hunter which was cut down along the lower edge.

Default Thanks

Thanks to you both - firing anywhere except across the frontal arc must have been interesting for the crew, crawling across the carrier's structure.

Kevin - sending you a pm.

Mike

Unless it is war art, medals groups or the social history of war, it does not matter as that is a minor detail that only the enthusiasts will spot.

Bit more than a minor detail 😂. I hope they replicate a new shield rather than slicing the bottom off that one.

Why "restore" if its wearing oiginal paint and markings ?? Make it safe and reliable to drive and operate, kit it with what should be on board and enjoy the barn find look. Far to great is the rush to "restore" with fresh paint (Holy Roller) and "make it better" to the eye...........everything, was only new once.
