Hi I hope to drive my blitz at Corowa in 2009. This is my starting point;

So far all I have managed to do is track down a drivers door and fit it, the hinges need a little heat to take twist out but it opens and closes so that is a start. next is to reseal a transfur case and make a new wiring harness. The engine runs well and I am using it to contract weed spray in rough country to help pay for the restoration. I plan to build a box for the back for parades and maybe fit a set of 20" wheels for on road as the 16" give me a top speed of 45kph.

You are fortunate in that you have a decent vehicle to begin with . Many of us start with a absolute wreck that needs a chassis up rebuild .

You may find a useable GS body around close by . The 'original 'paint job on your truck adds to its appeal . If you paint it with new paint , it won't look the same or have the oldy look to it .

The 16" wheels , keep them on I say . Driving in Hilly terrain , the little wheels help . You can get new 16" tyres from Agtyres at Moree NSW .

For getting around the hills I have fitted 10.5/31/16.5 mud terrains this is what slowed it down so much. I was only thinking of the 20" for road work.[IMG]C:\Documents and Settings\User\My Documents\My Pictures\MP Navigator\2005_12_17[/IMG] I havent got a picture of the new tyres on my computer yet. I need to be tutered on getting pictures off my hard drive as I have obviously failed in my attempt!

Not only has another truck been preserved, the greater tribute is that it is still a working truck after 62-63 years depending on its age. Look forward to seeing you at Corowa next year.

Chassis number is 38444S00939 does this indicate it is a 43 modle?

Got old cab chassis ready to tow home to rob it of the fiew good parts left. Twelve year old sons second tractor driving lesson will be towing me home. On saturday I will pick up a spare cab that has a splash guard for the generator still attached and some seat parts I need. Progress at last.

It may be - although often you'll see a Melbourne built Chev (where they always stamped the build date) with for example a 28444 prefix which was built in 1943. The 'S' in your number of course denotes a Sydney build.

That's the first WO67 I've seen; WO66 was a pontoon trailer tractor and I think WO67 is possibly also a tractor for a semi-trailer of some sort.

On pic 2/5 there is a bracket on the cab behind the door. Is this the bracket that holds the pole for the LMG mount?

If so could I please have some close up pics of it and some measurements please?

Hi Cliff

Yes it is the AALMG 'gallows' mount. Robert will need to send you a larger pic - the one I posted is the same size as received before compression.

Would it be too big a sacrolige to transplant hatch top for soft top?

Keith that stump you called a local cab mount is red gum so it is going to be solid for another 70 years, so should give me time to consider what other parts I need to rat off it.

The sunshine roof you have on your C15A is a lot more work to restore - I notice it has had the typical sheet of tin replacement and it's missing it's hoodbow as well as other pieces. Why not just fit the hatched roof for now and have the option to do the sunshine roof later. A properly restored sunshine roof is worth the effort. Euan McDonald's C15A is a good example which is featured in my Year of the Blitz DVD.

Ready for tow home hopefully after work tomorrow. This one has signs a LMG mount was once attached and my cab is drilled in the right places so was this a common atachment?

Yes, the LMG mount was a common fitting to Australian CMPs and other vehicles, although the gallows were much disliked because of their propensity to catch in branches.
The gallows are quite hard to find now.

Good find in the C60L. You'll soon rival Ashley Wilson's collection just to the North of you!

The Aust. pattern gallows LMG mounts are a scarce item, but don't worry . They are very easy to make . Iv'e seen a few repros and you cannot tell them from the genuine thing . You need a pipe bender , welder , length of cable and a few small fitments , and a few days of time .

Once set up , it would be possible to make a batch of them . Funny thing is that no-one has done this yet . The Chev. radiator overflow tank is another example , there would be a market for them I would imagine .

I'm not shore I want to put the LMG mount on yet with the 16" wheels the locking bolts would be great for bashing your head on.
I agree that making the pole would be easy even with limited tools but just getting the old girl roadworthy is a big enough chalange for now.

Finally found time to tow spare home. Greg nervous about his first tow and first time on main road on a tractor. He was a true soldier never looked behind for the whole two Km trip.

First part I'll use a decent handbreak the cams on my blitz are home made and too steap this break works well with little effort on the leaver. Work starts soon but I have to be a farmer for a couple of weeks first.
