The treatment you have received here in Oz is just our way of thanking you for providing a forum and a gathering of experts worldwide that we can avail ourselves of. And we are not unique as I am sure that no matter which MLU country you visit you would get the same treatment.

Thank you for what you have created.

I agree with this statement and also about Rod whose expertise is vast and has helped me out a lot of times too.

So with all this knowledge both here and overseas more CMP's just may be saved.

Cheers

Bob, it's all of YOU who have made this what it is... I only provided the venue. BTW, I agree with the comments made ref Rod... he was one of the first, and his contribution to all this is incalculable.

I'm presently packing to be transported to Tony Smith's place, then onwards from there. I will repeat, I cannot believe that all this time has gone by so fast. That I have to leave at all is disheartening at best, but I am determined to return next year.

I shall post again before I go, but for now, things to do.

Thank you all for everything. This year is one I will NEVER forget, as long as I live.

Jif

Hi Bob..
I started up Military Manuals in 1995 and over the years have corresponded with lovers, restorers and enthusiests of CMP and Canadian built WW 2 machines from all over the world..Rod was my first customer from Australia and one of my very first customers..
He really introduced me to CMP's through his old web site..Rod has forgotten more about CMP's than most of us will ever know..
There are too many here in the fraternity to mention that helped to promote the craft but Marc Montgomery and Convoy Magazine also has done a very honourable job in promoting Canadian Military History and the CMP story..
Then there is David Hayward in England..the "Guru of Numbers"...
Bruce Parker..the only guy who would dissemble his Fox CMP and store it in little pieces inside his house(Which I saw with my own eyes..)
Nigel Watson..."Knower of all things Carrier"..Pete Ashby..Richard Farrant..The Eatons..Mark 1 and Mark 11...Keefy Webb,pornograp,,...er...photographer extrordinaire...Bob Carriere..who has been at this since he was in his teens, with old Military vehicles, still has some of them around the farm is still at it and is two days older than dirt.....
Brian Gough...and on and on and on...
And I have had the pleasure of corresponding with almost everyone in this field through my Military manuals site or MLU or Convoy forums..
The latest contact was today from a chap from Zaire,Africa...he has located a Diamond "T" that was driven down from North Africa after the war and he is trying to buy it and restore it..
I will be introducing him to MLU and would love to hear the rest of the story..
So there are more storys to read and write..they just have to be dug out..
And special mention of Phil Waterman..one of the first to recognize the CMP was special historically and Peter Ford, who last visited me on his way home to Saskatchewan with his daughter Elizabeth,a week before he passed away..

And Rolf Ask,Don Dingwall,Mike Cecil...and and and .....

Hear, hear, Bob, well said! While Geoff himself has said that he never really expected MLU to turn out the way it has, I know in my bones that Geoff never set out to do it for fame and fortune for himself (Still waiting for the fortune to roll in?). Despite that, MLU would NEVER have evolved into what it has become today for so many people worldwide without Geoff's unique input. Alex, I hear you when you say your manuals have brought you into contact with many people around the world who have shared interests, but for most of us there is no way we can be introduced to so many around the world without MLU. Can one person change the world? No, but they can have a positive influence on a lot of people's knowledge, understanding and enjoyment of their interests. While Rod's and Keith's websites were an important start to immortalising the CMP on the internet, it was Geoff's creation of MLU that brought about the international community we enjoy today. I now have a wide circle of friends that I can rely on for information, parts and a laugh that I would never have found without MLU. If I can respond to that friendship with any information or hospitality I can provide, it is a small price to pay for the satisfaction and enjoyment I derive from being a part of MLU.

Ok, I confess... I lied. Sorry Keefy, I HAD to do it (Max made me, actually ). Here's a pic taken by Em of Happy and me this morning, after getting one of the sheep dogs (Loki) to round her up. No, they don't eat pets in Yass (unless they're really hungry).

More of Emma's babies being given a briefing by SUNRAY. They DO pay attention from time-to-time.

Default Lithgow

Just wanted to say that after a long day, I'm in Lithgow with Tony and Jo, well-fed and tired and a bit sore with the onset of the autumn weather, but very content.

Sad to say good-bye to the Hedges clan but supremely happy and grateful to have spent time with them; their hospitality can never be adequately repaid (and Em, that includes you!). You lot, including John and Fiona, are truly, as Fiona so quaintly put it in the inscription in my Kokoda book, "my Yass family". That means more to me than I can adequately express. Thank you all for a magnificent interlude in my travels - certainly an educational one at-that.

Glad to hear you made it safely to Lithgow. What's the weather like at Lithgow it's freezing down here, do you need my blitz jumper to keep you warm. A pleasure to have you here staying with us as it makes frienships grow closer, (happy is walking up and down the fence looking for you and seems to miss you already) as I also learnt a few tricks that can be done on the forum

(Organised chaos)

PS Geoff Max is already frustrating me with the typing this just took 15 minutes to accomplish so where are you, I think he needs a permanent typist. Kathy

Oh Derrr, Em!

Why did you think I mentioned the curly horns then?

I think it's more a matter of you showing your extreme youth, but that's OK provided you're prepared to learn.

Anyway, I'm glad to hear Jif was able to appreciate Happy's feminine charms. He's obviously made a bigger impression on her than I ever could.

BTW, looks like we're off to Sydney Sunday AM, not sure yet where I'm going to end up, will sort that tomorrow sometime.

All for now, tea's ready.

Default In reflection....

Ok...so you've been here for nearly a month Jiffy.
Travelled a few miles,
Spent a short stint in one of our Hospitals,
Saw our premier military event for the year,
Worked and lived on a real farm,
Chased our native fauna and livestock,
Saw some of our sights,
Droolled over our excessive quantities of Blitzes,
Eaten our tucker,
Drunk our grog,
Smoked our durries and had a natter with some of our sheilas....

What is your opinion of this sunburnt country now mate??
What did you learn or what didn't you know before you came?,
What did you find?,
What did you like?,
What didn't you like?,
How do you feel? ( health wise )
What can we do to improve things here in our country? ( in your eyes )

Just interested to know what you thought?

We've / I've enjoyed your visit...sad to see you go...glad you came over anyway....looking forward to seeing you back here again, and hoping next time you might be able to stay a while longer. ( maybe for good )

TONY: Those are wonderful photos of scenery and Geoff

PEDR: Those are great questions for Geoff and I hope he answers them. His visit to you folks and that part of the world sounds like it's been excellent and had huge positive impact.

I also totally love the photo image you posted of the dirt road and not a human thing (manmade or otherwise except for the road) in sight. It's a road I would love to hop in a vehicle and just drive drive drive forever, just taking it all in. Photos images and glimpses on TV are good too ... but not the same as being there.

Karmen.
