Default C1 SMG sling question

Dear all,

I am trying to clear up some confusion.

This is a Sterling SMG sing for sure, there is no doubt of that.

It is also likely that it may be of British manufacture.

Were these slings the ones issued in CF service? My thought is that they may have come from the UK with the new weapon as part of the deal.

Can anyone shed any light on this please?

Thank you

Robin

Canada did not use the Brit SMG and manufactured its own version. Towards the end of the service life of the Canadian made C1 SMG and with the fine C7/C8 about to come into service the supply system started procuring/issuing the Brit magazines with rollers. The sling you have is anyones guess how it came to Canada. The Canadian issue C1 SMG sling was more of an olive colour and not that lurid (Brit) green, the Canadian brass clip was totally different and blackened also.

The Canadian SMG sling was the same 1" fabric as the web gear and gas mask bag (AFAIR). The snap link and ladder buckle were black painted brass. I recall there were fingers on the moveable latch, and it opened wide enough to catch across two of the cooling holes.

...and it was a blast to shoot !

The funniest part was seeing newbies shooting it for the first time and watching the 9 mm bullets spray way up above the target and then finally into the open sky above the butts ...
