Default Three, I think

The Shilo museum in Manitoba, the Canadian War Museum in Ottawa and a private one belonging to a fellow in Quebec, though I haven't heard anything about this one in a long time. A fourth was sold to an American a couple of years back and is now in Utah, perhaps the only one in the USA.

There is an M76 Pontiac "Otter" in Northern BC. I believe it is for sale.

Default WWII Canadian Otter vs US Post-WWII Otter

Contributors are confusing two totally different vehicles which were both called the "Otter."

WWII Canadian Otter made by General Motors was a 4-WHEELED tall armoured reconnnaissance car with a turret for a Bren gun on top. Very rare. The ex-Bill Gregg one is at the Royal Canadian Artillery Museum in Canadian Forces Base Shilo, Manitoba. The Canadian War Museum has one on displaay. One or two were in private collections in Canada. At least one is restored and running around UK as far as I know.

The US post-WWII Otter was TRACKED, and made by Pontiac. A collector had a couple of these in the Vancouver, BC, Canada area but I have not seen them for a few years.

Default otters in Canada

Yes,there is one in St. Hubert ,Quebec, privately owned, and one at Elliott Auto Parts,in their collection, near Oshawa,Ontario. The Quebec one was traded from Elliotts also. Both are in very good condition.I think these were built in Oshawa during WWII.

Default Scratch one Canadian Otter (GM Otter that is)

The Elliot Otter (near Oshawa) has gone to a collector in the USA. To my knowledge, three remain in Canada: Shilo in Manitoba, the Canadian War Museum one in Ottawa and the private one in St Hubert, Quebec.

Correct, the chassis were made by General Motors in Oshawa and the hulls were made by the Hamilton Bridge Company in Hamilton, Onatrio.

I believe there to be two at Shilo...a restored mk2 and an earlier mk1 which resides in the dustbowl and is far from complete, but still has potential.

Default Mk.2 Otter???

Is there such a thing as Mk.1 and a Mk.2? I know there are earlier and later features, but are there separate marks?

The second (unrestored) on I recall having the back cut off for a tow rig.

I can't say about the mk1/mk2 thing, but the difference in the front seemed quite noticeable.

Yes, early and later front ends are different. The first jobs had the armour end just below the intake lovers leaving a rather beak-like front. The later ones had a faired in lower section that, to me anyway, looks rather smart. Other differences are in armoured shielding for the turret ring and pistol ports (added and removed respectively).

The rumour of a Mk.2 seems to relate to Otters with no turrets. I don't think there's any truth to this other than perhaps some speculation on the drawing board. A similar rumour about a Mk.2, 37mm gun equipped, Fox exists but appears equally unfounded.
