Wow
I have seen the news item. My Father would have been disgusted by this. He was in a POW camp most of the war after being torpedoed in 1940. I can’t believe how clear the filming is. No problem seeing the uniforms.

The people who OK'd the video could well have seen the uniforms, but would they have known the difference? Working in a government office does not necessarily make you any kind of historian.

The likely creative process was eight layers of approvals that mostly read the scripts and planned the shots. But the critical selection of (copyright free) visually appealing footage would be the last step in the chain. The poor schlub who had to make the deadline would have had no time to research or fact check - because the eight layers above used up every available working day and hour. Under the gun!
