Default LSVW E-Test Qn

Has anyone in Ontario registered an LSVW yet? I'm wondering about the e-test. Some people are telling me it is exempt as its a military engine, others are saying the same testing as a normal diesel.

If it was exempt because it has a "military engine" then why are we required to e test our Supacat and Land Rover Wolf?

That logic doesn't hold water chum.

But hey ho, it will be interesting to see the responses Ryan

From the Ontario MOT published information;

Exempt vehicles

You do not need an emissions test for:
•most-hybrid electric vehicles
•light-duty vehicles with a model year before 1988
•vehicles that are plated “Historic” under the Highway Traffic Act
•light-duty commercial farm plated vehicles
•kit cars
•motorcycles

I would think the "military engine" exemption mentioned earlier would refer to an engine being used by the military. Once in private sector hands it is no longer a military engine.

The farm plate loophole has been closed considerably. Now you need to produce an OFA (Ontario Federation of Agriculture) number to get farm plates. You need to have a declared substantial income from farming to obtain an OFA card.

Military vehicles are plated Federally, not provincially

Military vehicles (while still DND owned) are also exempt from provincial inspections and standards. However, every (reasonable) effort is made to meet those standards. Some of the green vehicles do not meet the standards by their very design. For instance, the taillights and front signals of the LSVW are not SAE approved, although the newest version with the LEDs is.

I didn't think they would be but someone else with one was sure they were.

Diesel engines require emissions testing. A well kept diesel engine should have no problem in meeting the requirements.
