I'm not a headstamp expert. There are whole communities of cartridge and ammunition collectors who should be able to advise.

Any 7.9x57 ammo would probably work in a BESA, but it wouldn't be possible to tell whether they were used in one or not. Unless it had a British military headstamp, in which you could safely say that it was for the BESA as the UK didn't use that ammo in anything else.

However, none of the headstamps you show are British. FN is obviously Belgian, and FS is probably Fabrique Solothurn of Switzerland.

Kevin.
The market rate for dubious mixed surplus ammunition is $1 a piece in Canada. As random 8mm Mauser rounds, those have negligible value to anyone who shoots. Just drop them off at the local gun store and smile as you walk away.

Or next time you display your carriers you might give them to some kids (under suitable conditions) and you might help to sow the seeds to grow some young people who develop interests like your self?

Kevin,

BESA does not have a round firing pin tip. Tip is the same shape as the Bren gun firing pin. You would have an oblong dent in the striker.

Cheers,

Marc, do you happen to have a tool roll for your besa?. I've got nearly all the contents but am missing the roll. Never seen one before, only in this pic.

Originals are very hard to find, though I do have one. I think Cobbaton had some reproduced.

That's what you get when you get two nut cases after the same item!, I guess he will offset it against a bargain.

I was going to say a batch of 50's dated ones came out about 20 years and cost about £10.00 to buy. Should have brought a load!!

Never seen a war-time dated example of any other examples out-side of this batch.

When you consider Ryton's told me that they chopped up some of their Besa's from Portugal as there was no interest it shows how things have changed. They were selling them for £150.00 with very little interest!! I recently paid something like £700 just before the change in the law.
