Default Hup interior

Does anybody know if there were riffle clips and wooden blocks fitted next to the rear doors ?
The one which I am working on has a strip on the door frame cut of , but for what , on the floor are 2 holes , but they don`t match the front wooden butt blocks,

What year is your HUP and do you know its body style number? Can you post a photo of the doors?

Default 1945 HUP does have them

Hi Maurice

My `45 HUP has bolt holes with captive nuts under the floor 1/4x20 by both front doors, by the left side door and on the right next to the spare tire box, and then on either side of the rear door. There are also mounting points for the clamp or clip above each of them.

I'll find photos showing each of the locations, I'll have to confirm if the mounting screws for the but blocks are all the same distance apart and if that distance is the same as used on other Pat 13s and Pat 12s.

Default Photos of Rifle Cup Locations

Hi Maurice

First I check my HUP against my Pattern 13 C60S while the two mounting locations for each is 3 inches center to center. The HUP uses 1/4x20 captive nuts welded under the floor while the C60S uses 5/16x? threaded directly into the 1/4 thick floor plate.

I assume that the earlier HUPs with mid doors on both sides that the right side mount would be the mirror of the left.

Middle Seat Right Side On HUP with no right mid door having the spare tire carrier in that location instead.

Default riffle clips

yes, realy thanks for that , it explains everyting .
The wooden blocks in a regular cab are in line with the vehicle , and I noticed on the hup they are under an angle .
building year from this hup must be 43 . no data plate. 2 side doors , rectangular roof hatch , round instruments , hard rubber steering wheel.

The sidescreens are stowed in the wire mesh bins shown in the picture in post #6 from Phil Waterman.

Phil thanks , but one of the side bins is still there , just the bottom piece is missing , but from the pictures in this post I can figure them out .and will copy one for the other side,
By the way the floor is made from checker plate , not the type as in the pictures in this post .
Next bit will be the 1 gallon can holders for under the rear of the body , when these are done the body can go on the finished chassis . Are there drawings available from these holders?I have seen copies in the past in France.
Will take some pictures next week .
The vehicle base collor is Brown , scratched paint away on the front , and there seem to be remains of markings there , will try to save them .

Are these the critters? I replaced the original holder boxes on mine because they had been flattened and straightened out to many times. So I have the originals sitting on the shelf, I think I did CAD drawings of them I'll look. Failing that I'll just measure and photograph mine for you to work from.

Default Pow can holders - hup

I used these diagrams to make up 10 sets of these beasts.

I welded up a set of them for my 45 HUP, so I still have eight spares (unwelded) here at the Hammond Barn, just south of the glaciers pushing from the north and just east of the frozen Great Lakes, in Canada.

Default As with many CMP parts there are variations

Hi Richard

As with many CMP parts there are variations, and differences in how they were made. I suspect that a lot of these small assemblies were given to small subcontractors and how they were made was best suited to what that contractor had equipment to do. They may even have been slightly modified to make use of left over steel stock trimmed from larger parts.

The result is your box and the one on my `45 HUP are slightly different in dimensions and method of assembly mine box is all formed from a single piece of steel. The computer just turned up my CAD drawing for the mine, Ok got a file format I can post to MLU.

great , thanks for all the info , I can see the remains from were they were welded on to the body , so have to go on from there .
It is also nice that everybody helps somebody else to keep the historical value upright for these vehicles with a certain character.

Phil, There is no doubt that SBMA contracts were spread out to ensure a continuous supply of material for the assembly line, and thus there were differing designs and methods of manufactur. I have examples of both your design and the design I ended up copying. Bottom line is that no one can say with certainty that one design was correct, the other incorrect.

I encourage all HUPsters to use the design that works for them. The world is a better place when another HUP hits the road.

Hi Richard

Whole heartily agree with you "I encourage all HUPsters to use the design that works for them. The world is a better place when another HUP hits the road."

What different items on CMPs have we seen with manufacturing variations:
  1. Battery box covers - single piece of steel vs two
  2. Battery hold downs - various configurations at least 3
  3. Lower battery box - single piece of steel vs two or more
  4. Running board steps - there is an old thread on MLU showing how step was made our of two sections of diamond plate salvaged from the wheel arch cut outs.
  5. Different types of blackout headlights
  6. Side curtain design
Some of these are obviously running manufacturing changes or improvement others were ongoing variances done to make better use of material or manufacturing capacity.

Who can think of more?
