PIAT's in Carriers
Since Bruce Parker spotted this in another thread, I thought I would post two photos from Ford of Canada showing a PIAT located on the top engine cover of the carrier. Not sure how far this idea went.

Piat
The PIAT looks to be a moked up one...
I have read about them being used but nothing else, though it certainly looks correct, the Sten mounts are also very interesting. I don't think the Aussie ones had Piats in them Tim |

Not only is the PIAT a mock-up, the sten also looks like it is welded up as well, unless there are chunks of grease on the gun. Perhaps Ford did not merit working weapons for the purposes of engineering kit storage.

Hi,
With all this kit on the engine deck that fire extinguisher is almost useless. Interesting though how they experiment with stowage options. Great pics sofar. Cheers,

Yes, that particular carrier has the Boys Rifle storage brackets on the engine cover, pretty much where they are 'playing' with the PIAT setup. It makes me think this may date the photos to around the time the Boys was falling out of favour as a viable anti tank piece of kit and Ford was exploring options for incorporating the PIAT as a possible replacement to the Boys.

I have a set of PIAT mounts for the front fighting compartment , I did have many years ago the rear transit brackets, they were the same as the vicker bracket .
Not fitted the front mountings, as for now I do as many ww2 photos show and my PIAT just lays in the back. Handy to grab and go tiger hunting !

I have posted this before. It looks like the Piat supplanted the Boys AT rifle, when the two pictures are compared.
