Default Help identify CMP van body wreck

Hi All,
Gord Falk & I were in the Manitoba wilderness yesterday going to look at a CMP wreck abandoned in the bush. Nothing much left of it but I was hoping it was an ambulance body for me to find a few more missing pieces for my ambulance body like the rear steps, side window frames, rear door handles, water tank, oxygen tank rack that was mounted on the ceiling etc. Turned out it wasn’t an ambulance body and there wasn’t much left of it. I scavenged as much as I could off of it but not much I could use. It was lying on its right side.
Can anybody identify what type of van body it was?
2 side windows on each side, 2 small windows at the front with 2 vents on each side of the windows. The rear doors were missing but in the pictures you can see what would have been on the roof above the rear doors is a half round opening at the top.
We managed to get a few of the U channel off of the body as some of mine on the bottom of my ambulance body is pretty rusty. I saved as many pieces that were worth saving. In one corner right beside a huge wasp nest is a shelf bracket. The floor above the rear wheel wells have hinges on them so they could be lifted up.
There was a metal reinforcing plate in the middle of the right wall in between the 2 side windows so something heavy must have been mounted on the outside wall.
Any ideas?
Derk

There wasn’t much left of the cab but the side vents were straight and rust free so I removed them.
Gord wanted the grab handle from the floor so after a lot of struggling to get the floor lifted so we could get underneath to get at the nut, found out it was too rusty for a socket got the vice grips on it and eventually removed it. We set the cab back down, grabbed our tools and headed home only to find we forgot the grab handle on the floor of the CMP! 338 kilometre round trip means it will have to be picked up another time!

Derk,

I suspect that it is a 5-J-1 body from a Dental Lorry. Most of the details seem to match less the hole in the roof.

Please see the attached images.

That sure looks like the body. I’m glad it’s not in better shape or I would feel the need to recover it and bring it home! Why? Cause I collect anything medical corps with a Red Cross on it!
That corner shelf is a sure sign that it’s most likely a Dental lorry.
Looking at the corner on my ambulance body this morning made me happy I was able to salvage the corner sheet metal from the dental body yesterday as it’s pretty crumpled.
Thanks for responding Colin.
Regards,Derk.

So if somebody painted Red Cross symbols on the front doors of a Winnipeg Police Cruiser. Derk, would you feel the urge to tow it home?

Default Welllllllll………….

The Winnipeg Police DID have a fleet of Police ambulances back in the 1960’s but they didn’t have red crosses on them so I don’t feel the need to find one!
I do have 2 Dental chairs and a lot of the Dental boxes with the red crosses on them that would have displayed great in the Dental lorry. Thankfully it’s in too rough a shape to bring home!
