Richard,

Methinks what you have to consider is that the ebay links we've been seeing recently represent a whole lot of shite which doesn't represent the market-at-large - only ebay and its peculiar tendency of getting people to pay way too much for way too little. Have patience. Carriers - in whole or in part - are out there at a reasonable price, looking for good homes... just have patience. You WILL find what you're looking for, at a hell of a lot less than you've seen so far; the thing is, most people don't actually want the damned things, because they're too much trouble to rebuild and they're too hard to move. Tracks aren't most people's thing.

Have faith... the "right" deal will come along.

Thanks Geoff i will continue to exercise patience, its been a year so another wouldnt bother me....to be fair longer time passes more my funds build. just bear me in mind folks....I have not heard from Don in some time he must be working away or something so i cant get details about the Fergus carrier untl i hear from him ?

how can anyone not love these things !! I suppose in my respect its a small way of bringing my grandfather back he was proud of what he did during WW2, and this machine got him through the war and kept him alive !

richard,

You should contact both Dan McCaw of Coe Hill, Ontario, Canada and Charlie Fitton of Mary Hill.
Sadly I don't have recent contact info for either but I am sure that someone here can send such to you offlist.

Either should be able to match you up with a mostly intact carrier but the freight bill from here to there won't be small.
Perhaps a shared container with Dirk Leegwater (on MLU) in France could be arranged via Barry Churcher who also posts here ?

France?!? Go rinse your mouth, please

Just to set the record staight: Dirk lives in The Netherlands, a.k.a. Holland, just like I do. Even though itīs a small country, Rotterdam is the largest port and anything coming to Europe coming from other continents is likely to pass through Rotterdam.

If you want to know about the Fergus carrier, I have seen it as I lived only a few km away.

If it is the same one, it is a cut down hull, basically a chassis and track. Not much to start with really...

Dont know about the Netherlands but when i enquired about British customs from Canada there was no import / export tax due to its age and of historic importance, and the VAT was reduced to 5%

it may be different for you Dirk, but i dont know of any Governments more greedy than the UK

He is probably too busy unpacking treasures from the container
No serious, LWD parts is not Dirk's normal day job, so he might not be able to answer the phone and emails as much as he would like too.

Cheers Barry but it needs to be a mk1 or mk2 bren (universal) preferaby Mk1 as this was what My Grandad drove, it will litterally be a full replica of his carrier when done, plus I have not got a spare £23k lying about for a 1950's swiss config T16

Dirk had only brought the one carrier back over which was around 10k out of my budget unfortunately the stripped one could have been a possibility if he had got it back to Holland

Still searching, the fergus carrier looks like its going to be a none runner, prices to get it back to the UK and then to obtain the Sheet steel outweigh the costs to buy a running item.

anyone wanting to thin out their collections to make some cash let me know.
