Bob here is a picture of a carrier that Emma saw while in Esperance visiting Michael, do you have this one on your list

I have nothing listed for Esperance. Did Emma get the Hull Number or some owner details. If she has owner details PM those to protect privacy and I'll contact the owner to seek details.

Hi Max.
I have a question for you regarding the sump on the Ford engine used in the carriers, I have changed a few motors in the past but never taken much notice of the sump, the one that I put in yesterday is sitting on the sump base and not sitting down on the engine mounts, I have not had this problem befor, but I must add that I have always used engines taken from other carriers, unlike this one taken from a truck,

Hi Bob, This carrier is in a museum in the old railway sheds at Esperance. I photographed it about four years ago. I'll trawl through my photos and see if I have the hull numbers.

If not, I can probably get a friend of mine there to get them.

I haven't come across that problem either as we have only used engines that came with the carrier, when I get a chance i'll measure the depth of the sump on the engine of the carrier.

Hi Bob, I finally got to go ot Esperance myself last week and got the serial number for you.

She is an LP2A Serial # 4180. I couldn't find anything that told me who built her though.

This carrier is owned by the town of Esperance and is on permanent loan to the Museum there. There are quite a few story boards around it telling of the history of it's restoration. It is painted in a very unmilitary shade of green though. I have more pics if anyone wants them. The carrier is driveable and is taken out for parades, etc.

4175 and 4280 were built by the South Australian Railways so it's a good chance this one was too.

Thanks for that. #4180 is a 1943 built SAR LP2A under Contract No. MOS.170. You could pass that on to a relevant person or alternately provide me with a contact name & telephone number.

Hi Bob, I was in a bit of a hurry that day and only really popped into the museum to get the serial number off the carrier. I did speak briefly to the old couple on the door but they were volunteers and didn't know much about it. So I am not sure who actually looks after it there or if they are even very interested in it's provenance. The green paint on it suggests to me that they may not be.
