Default Run don't walk.....

In case some of you may not have read the latest hymn book from Princess Auto....

They are featuring a set of dies and taps up to 1 inch.......

.....and the 5/8 taps in 18 UFC will fit perfectly over your wheel studs.......although only on one side of the truck........God only knows where you would find a left hand tread die for a reasonable price.......

......at $69.99 it is not a bad deal .... typically made in China most machinist would laught at them but for cleaning up treads on bolts and nuts they are hard to beat......

Oddly enough the wheel studs... on the right side... and the U bolts are the same size.... bonus......

I know it takes time but cleaning up bolt hole treads before reassembly really makes life easier....... especially if you got them full of paint like I did.......

Enjoy....

By all means buy the set from PA; after all a man can never have enough tools. But for the left hand variety check out ebay. For instance item # 140009699224 is for a left hand and a right hand set of 5/8 taps and is going for a whopping $10.
I find that the left hand taps, even in BSF, show up there on occasion, and usually at great prices. Although the ebay taps and dies may quite often be used, they will almost always chase threads quite fine.
On the topic of taps and dies, if your around Acklands supply, try a can of Crown tap tool oil. (pn 69106). It will leave you with some of the sharpest threads you will ever make.

Default Thanks for the tip....

Hi Rob

Too bad all they currently have is the tap.... the dies are much more useful for us to clean up wheel stud treads....... will keep an eye out on Ebay.....

Bob, just for interest sake you might call up Taylor Tool in Cambridge ON for a quote.
They make every oddball tap and die you can think of and many are right on the shelf for immediate delivery.
When I worked in the cutting tool business it was suprising sometimes to find out how cheap, or expensive some of these things are. Might be worth a check...
