Truck ID
This is not/not a certainty but they have some resemblance to 1939-1940 Chevrolet in the grille shape. The single rear tyre with large hub assembly resembles heavy duty 1.5 ton axles seen on Fords (but the grille/hood and cab aren't Ford) of the period that were sold to operators that wanted a single, high pressure tyre instead of duals. All corrections to this possible ID are gladly accepted.

Truck identification
I agree that it is a 39/40 Chevy with single rear wheels. Here is a picture of a 1939 Chevrolet fire truck from the web.

they are 1939/40 Chevs. I think I saw the faint outline of a vent on the side of the cowl which would make them Holden bodied ones.

AWM photo
This is of a 3 ton Maple Leaf Chev which has single rear wheels. The ordinary 3 ton Chev has the dual rear wheels but otherwise looks similar.

Hi Les that could be correct. I know the later 1941 Chevs only had the cowl vent on the side if they were Holden bodied plus they had a quarterlite window in the doors which it appears those trucks in the photo have.
Guess the only thing we are real sure of is they are 1939/40 Chevrolets.

That's a AWM pic . 003030 Egypt Convoy moves over the desert from Palestine.
Photographer: Damien Parer . Parer was a famous Aust. war photographer who filmed the Kokoda track scenes , so well known . I wonder if the AWM knows its on EpAY ! the 6th Div. AIF sign is visible on the guard . 24 ,would be easy to ID what unit is was . Mike
