Default ID of a Large Rectangular WW2 can with Locking Lid

G'day everyone,

a mate found this can at a WW2 site in northern Australia. I have not seen anything like it before.

Any ideas on what it transported (liquids, powder...)?

Any ideas on what the making M^M stands for?

I thought Minneapolis-Moline as a start , but am pretty sure it is not that.

All guesses and genuine facts gratefully received!

Jared

Hi Jared,
I think M^M could be Ministry of Munitions and possibly contained something like explosive powder. This may explain the type of cap, with it being tightened after the cap is fitted to prevent any sparks.

Richard are you sure?

I heard about the blonde who was sacked from quality control in the M & M factory for throwing out all the W W's.
