Default Penguin

Hello all and Happy New Year. I'm looking for photos of the Penguin snowcat. Exterior and interior would be appreciated. I have seen 1 photo of the interior but it was stripped out. Anyone have photos of the Penguin as built?

Thank you.

Hello Duane,

Did you search the forum? There is quite some info on the Penguin on here, e.g. http://www.mapleleafup.net/forums/sh...ad.php?t=20608

Thank you Hanno. I'm kind of website search illiterate. I usually just read posts and chime in when I can contribute in some way.

I appreciate the link to the Penguin thread. Have a safe and prosperous new year.

Ok. I know I'm a PITA but this was for sale years ago. Is this a Wapiti? Anyone know what happened to it. Is something this size allowed on the trails in Canada? Thank you.

Bob Phillips has this one for sale. See the thead here:

As to trail widths, I think the bigger problem would be getting it to the trail. At 11 feet wide, it would require overwidth permits to move on the roadways.

Thank you Mr. Love. I don't think he ever listed a price unless I missed it.

Looking for snowcat that seats 6-8 and able to tow 1 1/2 ton on ski's. Prefer one that is Military so I thought Canadian Military. The Wapiti is a magnificent snow vehicle that I'd love to own down here in Virginia for nearby States and MV shows.

Thanks again.

Default Wapiti

Yes, the Wapiti still survives and would appreciate a sympathetic new home. I rescued this machine 30 plus years ago and religiously retarp and recover it every fall hoping it will remain intact for restoration. It really needs to go somewhere where it will be stored indoors and restoration work can commence. If your really interested please PM me and we can have that discussion.
One of the benefits of owning this beast is the support I have received from MLU members to track down archival material, old film/ video and information on related over snow vehicles like the Beaver. When I went to the Public Archives of Canada in Ottawa a few years ago I discovered a vast amount of paper records relating to the design, construction and trouble shooting of this vehicle from about 1948 to 1955. It had never been accessed before my inquiries. When I read and reread the hundreds of documents I realized that I had met some of the original men behind this contraption at Bill Greggs CMP Seminar, but unfortunately at that time I knew nothing about the Wapiti or the considerable efforts in the late 40s and early 50s to produce a wide range of Caanadian built specialty vehicles.

Some amazing photos of the Beaver prototype and later production style. Note the similarity of the late production version to the larger Wapiti. These photos courtesy of Colin Alford, who has been very helpful in my quest for information on Canadian over snow vehicles. So far as I know, none have survived.
