Default 19-Set 5-Pin Drop Cord Repairs

Has anyone had experience disassembling or assembling these rubber drop cord connectors?

I have a 19-Set Headset Assembly that somebody in a previous life opened the 5-Pin Connector on, and left it like that. The item is in good working order otherwise but I would like to know if there is a proper way of locking the cord assembly back into the rubber cone. The rubber is the usual hard aged stuff and from what I can see, when these things were assembled, a coat of clear varnish was applied around the rubber locking ring to water seal it.

First one I ever saw opened up and the anti stress disk and cording setup is rather interesting.

Hello David
Had some success using a product an automotive friend suggested. He gave me an 8 oz. bottle of AT-205 Re-Seal.
Used to rejuvenate seals, power steering, rack & pinion seals, transmission etc..
I used it to remove those rubber inserts for the PSU, soaked them, they came out pretty easy, softened them right up.
Liberally coated a 5 Point with it and it softened up the rubber significantly. Long term?? Will let you know.
Link to a random goggle search. Only difference is mine is blue and bilingual.
