Mercedes Military G-Wagons Canadian spec
I'm new to the forum and have to say this forum is a wealth of knowledge
for newbies. I was wondering if the Canadian army was going to ever sell off the diesel G-wagons . Does anyone have any information about this? Last edited by Sam D; 11-08-18 at 21:10. Reason: better wording and spelling correction |

G-Wagon
Non have been released but hundreds have been cut up for scrap, one almost came out in BC and was pulled from GC Surplus, knowing the numbers of vehicles that have been damaged in roll overs and fires the numbers get smaller all the time, if you want one best thing I can tell you is to get a Ex German Border police vehicle and pray you can some how get the parts to make a CF clone,

There are stories about the electricals causing no end of headaches during troubleshooting.
Agreed on getting a European spec G Wagon and bypass all the North American spec issues.

First hand working on these vehicles it is a nightmare with electrical. The required software for maintenance is not a common access either, get really friendly with your local Mercedes dealer and hope they have it or can obtain it.

Thanks for the heads up. I didn't realize they had issues.

I'll second what Niel has said. Rather than try and diagnose the complex wiring harness, I have had guys simply replace the whole harness to get rid of gremlins.
The diagnostics are through a special Mercedes diagnostic scanner known as the star diagnostic tool. It is one thing to buy the scanner from ebay or whatever, but then you need the software, which expires frequently. Here is a good article on the subject: http://www.mercedesmedic.com/mercede...-need-to-know/ As cool as it would be to have a surplus DND G-Wagon, at the end of the day they are just a unsustainable SUV. Give me an open top hummer or Willys Jeep any day. |
