Default LP2a

Hello carrier guys!
Seeing all the recent post concerning Australian pattern carriers has inspired me to start the restoration of my 1942 LP2a.
I am looking for lots of parts. Are there any sources in North America or am I going to get to know lots of people in Australia?
This carrier was restored in the 1980's and repowered with a Ford 289 V8 and a automatic transmission, I would like to reinstall a flathead if I can get everything needed, including a complete doghouse.
More to follow and looking forward to hearing from everybody.

For starters, there's a gear shift knob up for sale on ebay for a mere US $125.00

Default Aussie Carrier??

Hi Carl
Details my man please. Hull number, photographs, if Aussie, how did it get there. Thjere is a wealth of knowledge out here on Carriers and if you want inspiration look at what Ron has done and is doing currently. Talk about a speedy restoration.

Hello again,
I will post photos in a few days, I need to get the computer set up.
Here's all I know so far.
Victoria railways, 1942. Hull number 3247, there's another number stamped above that number which is 740/1.
As for how it got here I don't know yet, the man who restored it in the 1980's passed away a few years ago. The photos I do have of it before resto shows a complete hull with no cut armor.
Ian I have an original parts and operator's manual, are there others?
Rob the interior is missing all the little brackets and boxes so I'll be looking for those along with the stowage boxes on the back. I would really like to replace the engine covers with original pieces but getting them would be a little expensive right now, but probably worth it considering the number of LP2a's in the states.
Bob I have seen photos of the restored instrument panels that you do, I'll be talking to you when the time comes.

Will look forward to seeing the photos of your carrier, The little bits that you need in side the hull can be found, and so can the rear bins,

Hi Carl
Information locked into my Carrier database. I had it previously recorded from records compiled by another Aussie who had it listed as a 1943 manufacture. Can you confirm. Also with the number 740/1, are you sure it's not 704-1 which is the part number for the "Bracket - stiffening to rear bulkhead-welded" which is the second place to obtain Carrier details. I take it the nonemclature plate on the front fender or armour near the driver is missing?
Panels not a problem apart from time as we are still trying to finish our new house.

Hello Ron and Bob,
Ron, if you come across any spare parts please let me know as I really would prefer the original parts if possible.
Bob, the data plate above the instrument panel is still attached and it is marked 1942, I will try to post photos next week. The 704/1 may be correct, I was going by memory but it is stamped on the flange welded to the hull along with VR 3247.
It sounds like you may have some info from a previous owner!

Hi Bob,
Thanks for the information re the panel, Just got through landscaping this place including one huge rock wall and two block walls, and fenced the place for deer, Must stop this and get onto the important things of life such as carriers

Hi Carl,
I will keep an eye out for you for parts and let you know what shows up, I just got back from a trip down south and got some good bits that I needed, duplex coupling , gear box mount and a bit of tin ware,.

Hanno, that gearshift knob in your photo belongs to a Canadian or English carrier. The Aust. pattern carriers use an alloy knob if I remember correctly.

Sorry Lyn

I must disagree with you this time.

Part no 473/4 is infact merely a Ford gear knob engraved with the shift pattern of a carrier.

This is my gear knob.

Definately Bakelite.

Also the Epay seller is in Victoria and known to me, and the parts that he is selling ( no comment on the price ) are surplus Australian stock.
