Default Parts needed for LP2A

I've just started on carrier LP2A number 2250 built by Victorian Railways Workshops, Newport, Vic.

This carrier was purchased after the war by the Tocumwal Gliding Club. They remover all the running gear to make a glider launhing winch. The remains were stuck up the back of the airfield with nothing much else removed. Of course the obvious missing bits are as follows.

V8 Engine,
Oil cooler and relief valve,
Fuel Tanks (2)
Fuel tap (3way)
Aircleaners,
Aircleaners to carby Ducts.
Gearbox,
Gearbox linkages,(Wishbone, fork etc)
Coupling,(To Diff - keyed type)
Tracks,
Bins (All of them)
Headlight(1 needed),
Taillights (2)
Engine box side plates (Left and Right sides)
Oil Filter(Fram)
Frame shutter (Driver)
Back rests (both driver and gunner)
Tools (All of them)
and many other little bits.

If you have any of these parts, I would like to hear from you.
Thanks Rick

See this thread for the recovery story - Still they come out of the woodwork

Default Lp2 -lp2a

Interesting that it is an LP2A, but still has the tools mounted up on the side.
How many LP2A's were built like that?

Haven't I seen this before, in a Batman comic?
So is this a 2, or a 2A?

Hi Lynn,

I don't know how many but if you have seen Keith's Year of the Carrier DVD, I'm pretty sure Mike Cecil in his interview states (to the effect) that the side stowage does not limit the carrier as being LP2 only, as it did carry thru into LP2A production.

Regards

Alex

Thanks for that. The change from LP2 to LP2A is the change from the 1938 axle (splined pinion) to the 1940 axle (keyed and tapered pinion)
Because New zealand had used that change over point to also move the tool board, I made the assumption, that Australia had too. I guess, with a bit more thought that any stocks of materials would be used up first.

Default Carrier #2250 Spares

Hi Rick - how are you off for the instrument panel and instrument housing plate. I have both styles of plate, with or without the switch guard. I can't remember whether I told you before but #2250 was manufactured under contract number MOV.1145

Default A great response.

A great response thus far.

I have had a headlight offered to match the one I already had. Thanks Nigel.

Bob, my dash is pretty good but I might get you to check it out.

Tony, found an oil filter in the shed. Have to make the mount now. So thanks.

John, the relief valve will be more than handy and I'll check out the lead on the shutters.

Keep them coming and we will see another carrier on the road again.Plenty more bits to find though.

Thanks Rick.

Default Headlights lenses?

I have only seen blue NOS headlights in NZ, yet the Aussie ones on MLU always seem to have clear lenses?!?

Was this a early versus late production issue?

Has anyone got a reason for the use of blue laminated glass?

Rob

Have you a copy of the pictorial parts list? (mine is loaned out) I think it shows the blue lensed lights as cancelled.
