help identify what is on this carrier
going to try to post a pic of a carrier with some strange cable? device stowed on the front. I was watching a war documentary on TV the other day and saw a scene of some barb wire entanglement and there was some of this cable in amongst the barb wire.It looks like there is about 1 foot of straight cable and then a curl ,then 1 foot straight, and so on. Not sure if it is even cable.Any ideas?

Dave,
They are "screw pickets". They are used with wire entanglements so that they can be screwed into the ground silently rather than the noise associated with driving an angle iron picket. Colin |

As Colin says, in civvy parlance, they are "fence posts", with the curly bits every foot to hold a strand of wire. The same concept is still used with modern rural fencing.

That's a nice early mk1 carrier done the way I like to see them. He does have the antenna hook pointing the wrong way though.
I was on the look for a bunch of those early barb wire pickets a couple years ago. There were still a couple at the local scrapyard. |

interesting, never seen them before. And yes, whoever set up that carrier did a real nice job. The squeaky clean ones don't look right.
