Ford horn location?

Might as well show my incompetence out in the open.

Here goes : What king of horn would go on a CMP 15A G.S. with a cab 13 ?

Were would it be fitted in front of the grille , behind , on the side , if so wich side ?

I can't seem to get an answer from what reference books i have . I am flustered.

Welcome to the MLU Forum. I hope this is not hijacking Richard's CMP seat cover thread. This is just to start you off - I'm sure the Ford experts here will chime in.

The Maintenance Manual ( MB-F1 ) for your truck shows the horn being mounted on the front, left side.

The specs are:

Make - Ford Motor Co. ( Sparks - Withington Co., Jackson Mich. )
Type - vibrator type ( six-volt )
Ref. No. - C29Q-13833 ( Horn and Brkt. assy. - C29Q-13802 )

Yes your seats should be in OD green..... but then it is your truck and your comfort.

Horn wise..... I spent the last 20 minutes looking in my various photos to show you what a Ford Horn looks like with no success.

It is located under the fender on the passenger side.... fixed to the frame behind the bumper...... It looks like a Chevrolet horn without viagra..... much shorter !!!!!!

Surely some Furd lover can illustrate my point with a proper photo.

Just remember there are no stupid question...... except for the one you did not ask and you now broke an original part......

Since most of us can't read too good some photos of your truck would be greatly appreciated. Do you have the ID tag on the dash showing the year of manufacturing.....

Where is St George....? you must be close enough to take a ride to the Hammond barn some weekend..... we are just a glide East of Ottawa off the 417.

Hello Robert, and welcome!

The horn is attached to the bracket that holds the front part of radiator overflow tank. Or at least that's where I have seen several attached. There is a small horn bracket which goes on horn itself, and this small piece is what is connected to the overflow tank front bracket.

To answer Bob's question Saint-Georges is 100 KM south of Québec city near the american border with Maine. As a matter of fact , i live 20 km away from the USA. The nearest american town is called Jackman Maine. A nice little lumbermen town with a great airport where i go thru customs when i fly into the US.

Saint-Georges is the home of Company'' A'' Le Régiment de la Chaudière of Juno be Beach and Northwest Europe fame. I used to be the A Coy commander in my younger days.

When you want to drive from Toronto or Ottawa to Halifax , it is almost 250 KM shorter a drive if you go thry Saint-Georges and Maine instead of the Trans=Canada highway thru northern New-Brunswick !

Robert, here are several images I have found, showing the horn and/or where it is attached.

This is a shot of the overflow tank itself. Horn attaches to the front vertical strap.

This is my horn. I believe it is correct for a Ford Cab 13.

I thought I had a photo of the bracket itself, but can't find it yet.
Still, it doesn't matter because............I saved the best photo for last.

This should have all the detail you need. including how the bracket between horn & overflow tank looks. I got mine from ebay some months ago.

The Hammond International Airport off Russell Road......?

It is shown on NavCan Maps as an emergency runway but it is just a ploy to keep traffic down......

Let us know when you are in the Ottawa area and will make sure we have some one here to give you a grand tour.

Now I understand you acquired the truck from Mike T. formerly from Windsor so you have quite the treasure. Mike put a lot of efforts into that truck.

You will need to figure out what software you need to resize you pictures to a smaller resolution for posting.... I use ACDCee software which works very nice.

Have connected with any of the other CMP nuts...er gentlemen.... in the Montreal area...?

As to the rad expension tank.... rare and not cheap but not impossible to find..... keep asking some one will respond eventually....repro would not be too difficult.... afer making 5 or 6 you get the hang of it.

I got mine through ebay. They do come up every now & then.

The one I have is originally from cab 12, so I have started modifying to cab 13 spec. The brackets are in totally different place, between the two cab designs. Cab 12 tank has the bracket across the bottom of tank, with two bolts going vertically down on two sides. The cab 13 has a small bracket down from the centre of outside edge and.........well, you saw the pics of cab 13 I posted.

Keep eyes open and you'll get one.
