Ford F15A Cab 12
Hi all,
This is my first post on here. I am from the Czech republic and recently I bought a FORD F15A CAB12 which was renovated in UK but not very successfully. Among other things I have to disassemble and repair the cabin and wiring. As there is no one in CZ to consult with I decided to try here whether someone could help me and give me some advice on the following: - what is the correct color of undercoat and top coat? - do you have some pictures of original wiring in engine compartment (placing and connection)? - unfortunatelly I have no data plate on the right side of the early dash. I got one data plate with the car but I'm not sure this is original (see the picture - plate with number 2750) and if so where should it be placed? - do you have some pictures of the original sealing between door and splashboard? Thanks for any answer, Zdenek |

Zdenek,
Welcome to MLU and congratulations on buying that F15A! I recall seeing it for sale onMilWeb, and am happy to see it found a home at a MLU member. Re. colours, not sure about the primer used during WW2. One option was that the chassis and drive train were painted black, then sprayed in a topcoat as per army contracts. By the time your type of truck was built, the standard colour was Khaki Green No. 3. Read more details in Mike Starmers article or buy his books. Aura Design in the Czech republic sells correctly mixed paints, see http://www.auradesign.eu/camo_p_br.htm Hope this helps, Hanno

Hello
Nice little truck! On my FAT , the chassis also had a black primer, but for the other parts it apears to be grey, other member could maybe confirm. Is the water gutter on the hood common , mine have it also and i thing it's a upgrade? Cheers Sylvain |

Hello,
thanks for all comments. I think that the water gutter on the hood is common factory production. I still don't know anything about original wiring in engine compartment (placing and connection). If somebody has any picture or info I will be very grateful. Recently I managed to buy new early dash. Do you think that the data plate is on the correct position (see the pictures)? Zdenek |

Niels, thanks for the photos.
Harlé, I disassembled the cabin and the water gutter on the hood and I must agree with you that it's homemade, not a common factory production. Does anybody have some more pictures of Cab 12? Do you think that Cab 11 and Cab 12 have the same placing and clamping of wiring? Do you know where the fuse-box should be placed? I have to do all new wiring now so that I could drive out this spring and I still have very few information therefore I appreciate any picture or note. Thanks, Zdenek |

Not necessarily a post war update, my cgt was rebuilt in 44, one must not forget that modification happen a lot during their up to 5 year war service, and the mod might have been locally made and not documented by official orders or instructions.

Hello,
I go on restoring my Ford and I managed to find frame and engine serial numbers. Does anybody know whether it's possible to find out some information from it? Also I have two early dashes. One has common switches and the other one has unusual pull/push switches (see the pictures). I have never seen one like this but it is original Ford. Has anybody seen it? Do you think it's suitable for my car? It is in better condition so I would like to use it... Unfortunatelly I have no dash plate with serial number. Does anybody know whether it's possible to buy a replica? And I still look for any information about original wiring (placing and connection)... Thanks for any answer, Zdenek |

Ford Cab 11 have the push/pull switches, while the Cab 12 and later models went to up/down toggle switches.
Keith Webb (a member on here) has a variety of new old stock serial number plates available. See post #6 in THIS THREAD.

Hello,
does anybody know what the "dot" marked on the enclosed picture is? Any switch or control light possibly? This picture is from Ford driving, maintenance and repair instructions but there is no reference to it. Or could it be a socket for inspection lamp? Zdenek |

Hello,
I made some more job on my FORD F15A CAB12, I managed to restore and place early dash but now I am helpless with the wiring in engine compartment. I already asked here about this and I thank you for all the comments but it all related to CAB11. I have CAB12 which I expect is different. Please if somebody have Ford CAB12 or you know anybody who has it send me some pictures or contact info. Can't go on without this. Thanks. Zdenek |

Thank you very much for help and for the picture. Do you know by chance where the ignition coil is placed and which way the cables to generator are lead?

Here's a few pictures of a Cab 12 bonnet I sold a while back. Those hinged rods in your photo (post #18) slide into tubular brackets on the bonnet as indicated. There are then two spring catches at the front, as seen in the third photo. Owen.
