Defence and Security (D&S) Platoon was a name I remember bashed around in '03 for PPCLI soldiers sent to Kandahar to do perimeter guard duties for JTF2. There was only the one SOF unit in Canada, and they were too important to be their own gate guards. So, a platoon of RegF grunts were authorized to grow their beards and dress like badasses. Except they weren't expected to go on ops - I strongly suspect the SOF guys would have taken a few out for on-job-try-outs as backdoor watchers.

In WW2, D&S would be the security pickets for important HQs and people.
