Cmp c15a gs
Hello everyone
I'd like to start by thanking you for letting me join and to tell you about the restoration that I am part of. I recently joined a living history group called the Canadian Military Heritage Society (www.cmhslivinghistory.com). The group has a CMP that needs to be restored. I am high school teacher at a school with a huge Auto shop program, so I suggested the two work together. Here is the result http://cmhsmobilemuseum.wordpress.com/ The high school is now restoring the CMP and we will need all the knowledge that this site has. Any help will be greatly appreciated and I will be asking alot of questions as the weeks go by. If you know or see anything that will help please let us know. Thanks Joel |

Wow..!!
Joel ..
What you have is a C-15A..with GM Diffs.. You are in the right place... Get your kids on the forum and ask away..this is the best and biggest in the world when it comes to CMP Knowlege. Alex Blair Ottawa There are reproduction manuals for the parts and maintenance of the C15-A C-15..Two Wheel drive.. C-15A 4 wheel drive. Here are the manuals you need.. Quote:
Grant 613-749-2551 Bowker <g.bowker@cyberus.ca>; Grant Bowker <canadianmanuals@yahoo.ca>; If the manuals collections was still mine I would donate the manuals to the school for the kids ..as I did a few years ago when another school was doing a restoration project on a Canadian CMP truck..but I'm sure Grant will work something out with you.. Love to see kids interested in CMP restoration.

Well this may seem silly but do we have the right order of spark plugs, there seems to be some disagreement on how they should go.
Any help would be greatly appreciated Joel |

Welcome Aboard Joel et al!
Hello Joel and crew (or G'day perhaps),
You have chosen wisely with these vehicles. Apart from the skills gained and experience of bringing a vintage vehicle 'back from the brink', you will no doubt find much information on 'how to' as manuals readily available online and parts sourced fairly easily. Personally, I have found the guys & girls on Maple Leaf Up have a collective knowledge second to none! All the best with the restoration. Seems to be off to a great start so far. Don't forget to post lots of photos as you progress!!!!!!! Tony B P.S: Pity it wasn't a Ford, but no-one's perfect :-)

Work continues
Well the work continues once again. The dashboard is being worked on and so is the hatch. The wood frame is done but the students are working on the inner pieces of wood. Now I just nned to figure out how the canvas and/or rubber attaches to the hatch?
The CMP now has tires and a windshield. Though I need to figure out what gasket goes around the windshild frames. The students installed one of the wiper motors but have not tested them yet. Since I worked with students to rebuild them, we need to test them. The one sad note was that we tried to get the CMP into the Christmas Parade in Port but it kept stalling. It would start up fine and idle but when we gave her gas, she would stall. The students are hoping a one way valve in the gas line will fix that. Hope you enjoy the pics |

Nice job Joel....
Idling / stalling...... why and what is a on way valve for.....
Sounds like you have another simple but tricky problem. At least you know you have spark or it would not start/run. Have you installed a vacuum gauge....? if not think of doing so even if only temporary....... reading off the guage will help you out. You may have a leak in the intake manifold.... gauge will show a low reading. Are you sure the vacuum advance at the bottom of the dizzy is working...? To test..... disconnect at the carburator....fit a tight rubber hose on it.... and suck...... with a 3 foot hose you should be able to see the dizzy move slowly....... suck and hold it with your tongue..... if it moves and stays moved your OK.... if it slips back you have a leak or perforated diaphram..... You are sure the timing is A OK..... TDC or 5 degree before...... and that has to be set with the vacuum advance disconnected and the open line to the carb plugged...... How is it idling.... nice and smooth..... no puffing from the exhaust pipe... When out of gear...idling.... if you give it gas slowly will it rev up.....if you press the gas fast does it stall......? Make sure your vacuum line is connected at the base of the carb or directly to the intake manifold. Is the wiper line sealed/plugged at the manifold?? What kind of carb are you using.....pics..? You have suitable fuel filter before the carb..... have you tried running the truck with a one gallon tank gravity feed above the engine..... careful for fire..? Shame you missed out on Santa's parade....... Get back with more info.... Bob

Progress
Great to see the progress.
Your wiper motor is upside down though.

....great for removing snow off the roof........ could the hatch be on the driver's side....hihihi Bob
