Hi all

I'm going to be in Edmonton for a couple of days and will I've some free time to explore. Any militaria stores or museums worth checking out?

Hi Jordan

Bearing in mind that I have not been to Edmonton in a while, Milarm might pique your interest.

http://www.milarm.com/

I'm sure others will chime in.

Enjoy your trip.

regards
Darrell

That museum at the municipal airport in the middle of the city is pretty interesting. You can see the Bomarc missile standing out front for quite a ways.

Default Museums

Hey Jordan

Definitly hit Milarm for his museum, they have over 300 complete uniforms on displaym they are hanging on hangers as it is a small small place. The wife and I have been there several times and make sure we go upstairs everytime we go.

If you need any parts or wood for a Lee-Enfield bring your wish list as they have a ton of old parts in the back.

Google the Loyal Eddy museum for the address, it is in the old armories in town and has some excellent specimins of a Bren, Piat and a wedding set, (Husband and wife) on display.

Expect to take a couple days if you go to wetaskawin as it is several hours to get there from the city and when I went all they had was Model T fords on display and nothing else, there is a small second building in the back where they have some War birds and several ribbons and medals on display.

Of course if you have a bit of time swing out to the base and see the tanks they have as gate guards as well as some other vehicles. You will be able to drive around a large portion of the base with no hassles and see any iltis they may still have, we saw 20 - 30 when we were there.

Gary

PS: make sure you get to the museum at the muny airport, they have an awsome collection of planes and static displays, I would say that they compare to Trenton's museum.

You must have been diving one of those Model T's if it took you several hours to travel the 90 miles to Wetaskawyn. They had a lot on display the last time I was there.

Thanks for all the suggestions. I'm not too sure how much time I'll have. The reason for the trip was due to a contest my dad won. It's to go with the Hamilton Tiger Cats for a game against Edmonton. We are supposed to have a bit of free time but I probably won't be able to venture too far.

......don't forget to go to Stan Renolds personal property, you can see it from the RAM grounds. He kept all the military items on his grounds. The last time I was there, he was getting ready to sell off his fleet of SMP vehicles.

Jordan it sounds like your father lost the contest if he is going to see the Ticats. Aaargooos.

Seriously now, congrats to Dad. It should be a good game and now that the Eskies have stuck the Argos with Ricky Ray they will be harder to beat. Have fun.

Hi Jordan,
Fred Armbruster is restoring the Civil Defence bunker in Edmonton to a museum.Not sure how far along he has progressed but is a member on MLU here and may be an option for you to visit. You can see his website here;

Rob Love had taken me to see Supply Sergeant in the west Edmonton mall years ago when we were there.I found some goodies there but not sure if they are still there or in business yet. Some options.Have fun.

Hey All

Supply Sergeant is still in business in the west Ed mall, Stan has sold off all his CMP's and UC's there is not too much to look at anymore and the small museum he has on his property is closed up but does have some very cool vehicles inside.

Jordan you will likely have time to go see Supply Sergeant and/or Milarm but not much else. Hope you guys have a great visit.

Gary

Thanks all for the suggestions and PM's. It doesn't look like we will have too much free time for a ton of sites. Plus I still have to see what my dad wants to see. I'm his quest after all.

Made it out to Edmonton yesterday around noon. Got to hotel and found out we were within a 10min walk to Milarm. So we walked over but the museum was closed even though we still had an hour according to the sign. Spoke to staff who said to call in morning. Came back to hotel and checked out a small mall in the area for some lunch. Dozed off for the afternoon before our steak dinner with a few players. Had a great time and amazing steak. Today had breakfast with the coaches and team. Nothing like endless bacon and eggs and pancakes. Went back to Milarm today and was let up to see the collection. Very impressed with the variety of stuff he has. Particularly the women's uniforms. Some rather rare stuff. Then we headed over to the West Edmonton Mall. I'm not one for much shopping but wow. The whole Columbus ship replica and sea lions thing was pretty cool. Roller coaster and watermark were neat to see also. Bought a CWAC cap at Supply Sgt. Soon we are headed over to the stadium for the tour and game. They even provided us with jerseys.
