Can anyone tell me what year she would be ? and what things arent original fittings ?

I intend to restore her back to original condition , so if any one has any doors or window frames or anything else they think i might need just let me know .

Cheers Plushy

The bump stops for the rear over rider springs look a bit homemade to me. The civilian style instrument panel dates it as a 1942 or 43 and it's not an F15, it's an F15A because it is four wheel drive.

Looks like a good project though. Have fun.
Cheers

Default good one

It would have had a canvas roof where the patch has been welded in, you don't see many of this type of roof in fords.
Max

Rod do you think that the window frames are chev

Default Windscreen Props

Interesting photo of the windshield opening and closing mechanism. Is this a post-war mod or just another Aussie product improvement?

It's just one of our war time improvements, started sometime in 1943 and we find it on ford and chev

Thanks for the Extra info Guys .

I managed to find the Military number on the front and it appears to be 54968 i couldnt find any numbers in front of the 5 it does also have in black lower down 128___ which has been done twice

Heres a photo :

Is the Drivers seat original ? i want to cut it out as it has been welded to the floor plate so if its not then i will cut the seat frame up but if it is then i will have to work something else out .

Cheers plushy

Plushy it looks as if your ford served with the 4th Aust. Armd. Bde. Group. Looking at your last photo I can see a crocodile over a boomerang but I am not sure on the numbers though and also the seat is not original.

Default awm 126

hello james
you have a really good start
you have the arn number and apparently you can view original records at the awm or request copies to be digitised (however there is a fairly steep fee to get it digitised and sent )
the files you need are awm126
keith webb is probably the best one to fill you in
good luck with the old girls
hope that helps

128 on a black background is the unit sign of 'Corps Pro Coy' according to S Tauberts tac book page 176.

Well today i bought some more Blitz`s Heres the F60S i bought as a donor for my F15A

Heres the Data Plate for It

I am going to use the Tyre Carrier/toolbox for my F15A as well as the doors and some of the interior fittings and the Radiator . The motor is a 8BA i think as it has a seperate bell housing so the current owner is keeping it for a project he has .

I also found this one a F60L Cab 12 if i am learning these cabs right , i an negotiating the purchase of this one at the moment as the cab interior is nearly all there including all the Data Plates . It will need alot of work to fix up the roof and guards but i reckon it can be done .

Heres its Data Plate

Blurry photo of the dash switches and plates .

I have some more photos of other vehicles i found so i will post them up in a new thread .

Hi Plushy

As I mentioned in your other thread this is a F60L - the data plate is from an Aust No2 Ambulance and was usually positioned on the engine cover so this has probably been swapped with another truck. All the ambulances had typical late pattern features such as 'FORD CANADA' on the front shell, lifting flanges and also canvas doors. That one has the typical 3-ton GS body fitted to long wheelbase trucks. The spare wheel carrier will need to be modified to fit 16" wheels.

Will have a look for your ARN next time I'm at the Memorial. It will list an engine number (which doubled as the chassis number for Fords) and also where it was issued and disposed of.

Keith i also found on the fuel tank of my F15A some information of a previous owner it reads ` &Sons Durham Lead Ararat ` i have some friends that live up that way so i am going to try and track down the previous owner and see if they have any of the missing parts .

Whats involved in modifying the spare wheel carrier ? should i save this one and use it as a template to make a 16inch wheel version how rare are they ?

Default ARN found

Just happened to have a copy of the relevant page

Delivered to Victoria Barracks (no date) Engine (and chassis number) 3G43136F and it was sold to a private company (no details or date).

It was a 15CWT 4X4 GS.

Default Easy?

Not all that easy to find, sadly.

Here's a link to exactly what your truck would have looked like when new - it's the lower image and has a GS No2 body and also a sunshine roof.

Keith I was talking to Mike and it sounds like the 128 numbers don,t match the crocodile over the boomerang so if thats the case this blitz may have served with a couple of units.
Plushy did you get Mike"s email I sent you as he should be able to help out.

In a divisional type unit 128 on a black background is the unit sign of 'Corps Pro Coy' according to S Tauberts tac book page 176.

4th Armoured would be likely to have one of these Coy in their headquarters unit wouldn't they?

But having said that the croc over boomerang does seem to be over/under the other and normally the unit sign (128 etc) would be on the Left hand side (passenger side) with the Division sign on the Right or drivers side along with the bridge weight sign.

Default ARN's... digitised!

Plushy, Max,Keith, Tony, and others,

I have a few pages from the AWM volume copied with ARN's but sadly no-one else's trucks. The closest known truck to mine is Ian Fawbetts F60 in Dubbo!

Would it be worth out while to request (through the Mike at the AWM) to have all ARN's digitised in PDF/Acrobat?

I think it would make looking for a truck so much easier. (It took me four x 2 manhours there... to find my truck.) and would stop the pages being turned, and copied and slowly destroyed.

Could we ask Mike Cecil or a part of the AWM to undertake the task?

I am happy to write a letter if you all support me.

Oh PS Max, I am still checking an alternate NEW Departure Bearing... I have the manufacturer involved. Fingers crossed I get a reply.

Ian

Ian , i think Andrew mentioned further up that for a price the AWM will send out a digitised copy of the information . That being said a pdf of all the ARN`s would be good as i will soon have some more trucks i want to track the history of .
