Default Amphib Jeep in Sydney

Don't think I have ever seen a GPA on E-Bay before:
http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Ford-/370...item56466328fe
Needs to be put together though.
Be interested to see what the top bid is, and weather it passes the reserve.
Rich.

Hi Rich

I thought I recognised the amphibious Jeep. It is for sale on M.V. Spares website in Sydney, it has been for sale there for some time. Google M.V. Spares and when the site comes up, click on "Vehicles for Sale" and you will see the photo of the same GPA with the same background. They must have decided not to proceed with their restoration.

Cheers

Tony

Well I guess we know what the reserve will be.
You need a green Jeep to balance out the yeller one, now's your chance and you won't have to change the colour of your trailer.
Job Done

Sitting at $20,000 still not met reserve. Guess they want to keep it awhile.

US $25 100, Reserve not met. Ended.
Very poorly described though, listed as "Ford", so would not have turned up on most searches that we MV afficionaddos would use. (I was chasing the second half safe book, only reason I found the listing)
Rich.

Richard,

If you just ring up The Guildford School in Perth they should sell you a Second Half book - they backed the publishing of it as a school fund raiser.

Thanks Lang, I did look on their web site, but there is no mention of it being available. Turns out the book I am chasing is the third one, and not written by Ben. Plenty of them out there though, so it is not a problem, just getting the Christmas list sorted....
Rich.

Richard,

You will have to ring the school as there is just one person in the office who will know about the book sales.

For those who don't know there was a third book - written by Ben Carlin's shipmate on the Pacific crossing.

"Once a fool: From Japan to Alaska by amphibious jeep" Phoenix Books
Boye De Mente
isbn 0914778013, 1988

He and Ben did not see eye to eye!

Looking at the current GPA values, makes me wonder why somebody hasn't thought of paying for a set of body panel dies to me made up , say in an off- shore place like Taiwan . The bonnet and wave guard are examples .... once you have the dies ... make hundreds and become wealthy A chap in Germany did something along those lines , for the VW swimmer wagon... he charges something like 30K$ for a new hull . But in his case I think he hand forms it ... time consuming . Mike

Mike,

There is a guy in the UK who is currently making ALOT of panels for the GPA- last pictures i saw of what he was making, he had the side panel (centre section) and i believe was working on the more intricate ones. Not sure on price, but i think from what i saw and for what you get/the time to source/make your own, they were well priced.

I just did a search and heres the site for interests sake.

Cheers,
Ian.
Just for info I have the complete report on the test pilot Model Canadian armoured tracked Jeep MKl..
It is the testing report on the comparison on this experimental model with the Weasel M29C, from the Canadian Ordnance proving grounds,Ottawa Canada..
On the distribution list is the US..UK..and Australian Military Mission Wash..Attn.Major Lovie
And the Canadian military attache,Australia.
It includes black and white pictures of the Jeep and the suspension parts and the complete engineering blueprints for the mods to the Jeep..
Could be built from this folder ..
There was 20 Copies on the original Distribution list so it is very rare.
