Oh yes, if you see some wild-eyed German careening about on a Kettenkrad, follow him back to his lair... the rest of us will no doubt be there, waiting to feed him good Canadian whiskey and whatever beer we can scrounge...

Ah, there will only be gentle careening or the wrath of the SS (Show Sec) will descend in short order.

Herr. Ob. Kettenkradfixennführer Andreas, der Amtlich anerkannte Sachverständige für den Kraftfahrzeugverkehr has a sandgelb KK and this year I really must print a small Desert Gardening Club logo and stick it on surreptitiously.

I must report though that Herr. Ob. KkFF. AAS Andeas does also bring a Beemer bootfull of most excellent German wurst that BBQs very nicely, however, from last year he has learnt not to bring the Vaterland, EU approved, TÜV marked, safety charcoal.

This stuff is so user safe that it is entirely impossible to achieve self combustion even after the application of ½ gallon (Imperial) of UK, liquid gold, petrol and my Zippo at some danger to life, limb and eyebrows.

Much to his chagrin, our local stuff here in Albion, without the fancy type-approval, does do exactly as expected and we will doubtless remind him of this at length and the need for Der Vaterland to resign from the EU since it continues to fall short of the self-written and documented economic rules for continued EU membership.

We are a very fair and balanced gathering, everyone cops a mickey-take without diffidence to race, religion, creed or colour.

Now, I wonder how the Aussie is doing that's driving here in a Dodge Command Car from the first land-fall in the far east.

Ah, now Dave (I can cook if I have to) Ballard has been given firm rules; a gewaltmassname if you will, the garage is his domain; not Mo's kitchen.

This is a bit of a disadvantage as if we leave it to him, meals consist of a digestive biscuit and cornflakes.

No one can confirm the "I can cook if I have to" scenario as the DTB truck always needs cleaning at the appropriate time.

This is an entirely similar situation to the smudge of trodden-in black grease on the 2 week old, white, bedroom carpet.

Said with indignation:

"I don't work with grease."

Really?

Pity indeed. I've tried too, but he's become lazy in his advancing years. Maybe it's the altitude. Ah well, we'll have a cuppa in his name...

Ref flags, I'm bringing a few of them over, hopefully to sell to suitably interested parties (considering 6 British infantry divisions and 2 British armoured divisions served in the 1st Canadian Army). Not a priority, of course, but they WILL be available. Hard to believe I've disposed of more than 75 since I found a supply...

I'll also have some Red Ensign stickers, courtesy of a chap out west.

You know full well Rory and I cook, especially proper hash browns that can only be made with loads of Greek olive oil and proper English potatoes, King Edwards. You also know full well he always makes custard with something.

Very good stuff, Herr. Ob.KkFf's genuine wurst, I'll tell him to indent for extra stores before his personal Operation Seelöwe, in fact I'll email him a gewaltmassname.

(Ah, Mrs Notton with the T, 'scuse me a mo while I get the baccy tin.)

Getting the BBQ started is fun, we always start too late and then become hungry/impatient waiting for the correct grey ash. I have been known to employ the leccy fan powered by Mr.Honda for charcoal encouragement. P'raps I should take my huge petrol blowlamp that does a passable impression of an Argus V1 pulse jet, would be homely for Herr. Ob. KkFf.

Default Normandy..

...saved my money and have everything set to visit the site where Uncle Ralph gave his all for his countrymen. But it appears that 60 years after my family lost one of its sons it is to gain one.
Yup, a boy is expected on Oct 2nd. This being said I can't in good conscience make it to yrrup this year. Perhaps next year.

You SILLY bunt! Something wrong with a gummint which allows the likes of YOU to breed!

Anyway, congrats on that... but just thinking timelines - you'd be best off doing the trip NOW, as you will NOT have time or opportunity for the next few years. Trust me, I've been there...

I'm able and willing to learn and this year we'll use the good UK charcoal (Now I know, why there are virtually no forrests in the UK: All cut down to make charcoal...)

Default I hear ya...

...but due to my locale I/we have to drive 1426km to Edmonton to have the darn thing. The doctors demand you go 2 weeks prior to the due date also. but you have to stay in a hotel until you are in labour and if its a healthy delivery 8 hours later you are on the street. Then if its late I'll still be there,at that point on unpaid leave also having only 2 weeks holiday. Then there is the 2 to 3 days drive home with tired mommy and newborn. Also I have to pay for my Mom to fly up to the house to look after the dogs and house while we are south. And anything else I can't think of...oh yeah the gas price being 115/litre here and at 14 litres per 100km...hmmm. So that $180,000 to raise a child to 18 gets a whopping big headstart if you live in the north and aren't native.
I have a bit of an advantage over what you chaps had in that she gets 93% of her wage for six months and full unemployment payments for the final six months, so next may or june Melissa will still be at home off work.
And many thanks for the good wishes.
Sean

And speaking of gas prices...40 bucks a barrel is the same price it was in 1991, but the gas price rose dramatically to 67cents a litre, so why is it from 91-115 cents a litre ,now, if the price per barrel is the same. I haven't got a 50% raise since then so it can't be labour costs....

Is that all? Try $CAN1.97/litre; and then 1.8 litres/mile.

Default JEEZPERS...

...I think I should start raising sleigh dogs to pull carts as driving is soon to be for the rich. The good thing about sleigh dogs is they don't take up much room and the presents they leave behind can be given to the local politicians...

Herr Ob.KkFf. Andreas, greetings; you've not been down in der Wolfshagenweg bunker listening to that CD of massed Lancasters again have you?

If the Albion kraftstoff doesn't fire our best non-EU approved charcoal then I am relying on you to bring a few litres of C-Stoff and T-Stoff.

Bummer that is, however, the cabin crew have ways. . . . . . .

1. Go in the bog and open the basin drain, keep ciggy in sink and blow "exhaust" smoke into basin drain where the vacuum system whips it all away before the smoke sensor sees it.

2. Crew only solution, very similar to 1 above but using galley drip tray below coffee/tea/hot water dispenser, another grid connected to the vacuum system. Only applicable whilst passengers sleep.

Ball-Spinnington may in the car or around the house just like the rest of us here; I'm off to Gatportairwick in a hour or so and have some cold ones to take in the 12V car fridge, which has been running off the mains all night and is nice and cold.

Never fear, Spinny-Ball will be quite controlled, in any event the Canadian pixie has a lot less altitude than me or Mrs Notton, we'll keep him in good order.
