In 1986, HMAS Perth visited Hobart as part of celebrations for the 75th anniversary of the Australian navy's foundation. On arriving in Hobart, the destroyer accidentally rammed a wharf damaging her bow and the two-storey CH Smith chandlers building, while narrowly missing a "Welcome" sign. McHales navy ! Ensign Parker must have been driving it.

Further to this story, I was on HMAS Geelong which berthed behind Perth when this happened. It was amazing how quickly Tee shirts appeared on the streets with this photo and a crossed red circle, emblazoned in big letters under the screen printed photo. 'Wharfbusters'
