Wow, that's a long way from home. I know Rusty likes a challenge in recovering carriers but I think he might think twice about this one.

Agree, I think the German cross is a later addition. Some re-enactors will paint one on everything with wheels & tracks

What I am interested in is how an LP2A ended up in Tahiti of all places?!?!

Just a question, but how do we know this is an Australian carrier?
Could it be a NZ pattern LP carrier?

Wasn't there a thread on here I recall reading about some LP2A carriers from Aust or NZ that were supplied to the American Marines in the Pacific and then ended up with the French on New Caledonia? Tahiti's not too far from there and still French.

Default Island Carriers

While the US Marine Division were based here in NZ prior to the big push up into the Islands they traded there scout cars with the NZ forces for locally produced LP2's, which they used for training etc. Apparently some of these were taken to the Solomon islands but didn't work out to well with the terrain. NZ LP2 carriers also were sent to Tonga and Fiji so maybe this one might from that lot. Thats not to count out the Aussie Carriers which were sent up into the Islands as well.

I saw this carrier re-advertised in the August 2013 issue of a French military vehicle magazine. It still resides in Belgium with Karl Delrue.
