Default WWII Army Cot???

Hi guys,
I have come across another item that I am unsure of it's use.
It is obviously a folding cot of some sort, but the size and construction have me confused.
It looks almost like a two person cot as there is a wooden rib down the centre, the construction is wood with metal fixtures. The body of it is the same canvas as a kit bag. There are no markings on it anywhere.
I also don't know what the purpose is of the one end being split into strips instead of being solid like the other side.
Anyone know what this thing was used for and what date it might be from??
Regards,
Jeff
