Hello,

Does anybody have a good overhead photo of a Canadian Lynx Scout car?

I am trying to scratchbuild one. I have a good scale drawing from MAFVA's Tankette magazine which appears to be very accurate in nearly all respects, except possibly one.

When the crew compartment was designed, I beleive it was a copy of that used on the Daimler Dingo.

The drawing shows a small difference. This is a plate welded inside the front plate, which provided a small amount of overhead cover to the driver and the other crew man. The photos I have of Lynx Armoured cars are all taken from ground level, and I have not been able to confirm whether this plate shown on the drawing is correct.

Keiths top picture shows the roof section in the stowage position ..either on or off...
I don't think a permanently welded in plate over the driver would allow an observer to stand like the picture shows..All my Lynx manuals show no plate as you describe..
Maybe a field mod ,but still restrictive to movement..

Hello Keith & Alex,

Thank you Keith for two great photos. They will be very good for when I get down to the fiddly bits.

I have attached a drawing with the offending line highlighted. It looks like it is an error from the photos I have.

I beleive the plan was drawn from measurements made about 15 years ago in a South African War museum, so it may be a post war modification.

I don't know if Lynx were modified and operated by the Portugese in the same way as they were in Malaya, and with the very similar Dingo.

What I see in the drawing is the edge around the inside of the driver's compartment onto which the folding roof rests - see the pic below:

Thanks for the great photo of the Lynx.

At that point I thought, right the plan is wrong. My mind was set at rest.

Then I read the rest of your post that suggested that I do a search.

Doing the search I found the following photo showing a recently restored vehicle.

It has the narrow front roof plate on the plan.. aagh!

Were there two versions?

Or did the restorer get led astray by the same plan I have, as I beleive the upper hull is all new.

I know there was a Mark I with the rounded fuel tank and the Mark II with the angular fuel tank.

There is a photo of a Ford Lynx II on the web site for the RCA museum in Shilo Man.
It appears to also have the small ledge along the top front of the crew compartment.

Keith, I was looking for a rear axle of my Ford Lynx I, more than two years. In all the time, one guy from B.C. Canada gave me a tip about the axle but that was to difficult for pick-em up of an island. Oh well Keith, the picture is very nice and I am happy that the restoring of the Ford Lynx I is finished. Dirk

and has part no. C29SR - 4000 B. Other detail:
Lynx I has 6 wheel studs and Lynx I I, 8 studs.
